Notes_Norton Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 She is not only one of the best female bass players in the world, she is one of the best bass players in the world - period. Carol Kaye No. 1 Call LA/Hollywood Free-Lance studio Bassist with over 10,000 Sessions. Carol was one of the core group of anonymous studio musicians who lent her unique styles of studio Guitar and Electric Bass playing to many of the hits recorded by such popular artists like the Beach Boys, Ray Charles, TheRighteous Bros., Johnny Mathis, Nancy Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Glen Campbell, Lou Rawls, Jan & Dean, Henry Mancini, The Lettermen, Paul Revere & Raiders, Monkees, Buckinghams, April & Nino,Sonny & Cher, Chris Montez, Andy Williams, Quincy Jones, Joe Cocker, Ike &Tina Turner, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, Frank Zappa, Wayne Newton, Herb Alpert, O.C. Smith, Don Ho, Al Martino, and a few Motown (LA). She is the bass Goddess. Notes
Swmcv2007 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Kim Deal is great, cool style and super cool voice. She's a huge part of what makes the Pixies so unique. Tina Weymouth is also great. She has a very cool funk style that relies more on the groove than the licks. Sometimes you can't even tell what she's playing because its so locked in the groove, it kind of reminds me of Bill Wyman in a strange way. +1 for Notes for pointing out Carol Kaye. I would've forgotten about her, which is sad because its the same for so many talented studio musicians.
charlie brown Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Yeah, Carol Kaye IS great! And, of the younger set, Tal Wilkenfeld is "amazing"...IMHO! And, so young, too! CB
Howlin4Hubert Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Tal Wilkenfeld Another +1 for Tal. Saw her live in '07 and she rocked the house!
solacematt Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Emma Anzai of Sick Puppies. She's referred to as 'The Female Flea' Aside from the fact that she's absolutly gorgeous, she's a sick bass player
