Mr. Robot Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I'm a D'addario man myself, but I was wondering if anyone has any comments on Gibson's own brand of strings. Are they any good?
RudyH Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I started using the Gibson Nickel 10-46's on my ES 335 and really liked them. Then I got them for my Stratocaster. I love them for that too. I will keep buying them. They are especially good on the Strat. They are not cheap, but they ring very well. They last reasonably long too.
DamienAzrael Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 No....I've been using Ernie Balls for years.
Mark Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I just had my 335 set up with a set of Gibsons and I will change them as soon as I have some time. For me thay feel like drum barrels under my finger
FirstMeasure Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I use Gibson L5 (12-56) and sometimes their flatwounds on my Joe Pass Epi, all my other electrics get Dean Markley 10-46.
Homz Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I tried the vintage reissue's. I hated them. Until I get the guts to try something else I'll stick with the Ernie Ball Slinky's 10''s.
MikeRom Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 They're about the same, D'Addario and Gibson brite wires, although I do prefer the brite wires. The D'Addario quiality the last few time I used them seemed off, like an inconsistent guage down the length of the sting so I went with brite wires and haven't looked back.
bol316 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Gibson strings for electrics. Elixir for the acosutic.
saturn Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 http://www.webstrings.com/ Rich, I took your advice and ordered some. They're nickle coated and feel slightly different from the D'Addarios I was used to, but they very fine strings. It's kind of a pain how they're packaged in twos. They sometimes get tangled with each other, but I guess that's one more way they cut costs. The price is right though
chengin Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I Like the Gibson vintage reissues. I'm happy enough with them (so far). Found it hard to get hold of them (9's), but I got a batch from webstrings thanks to Rich.
sliptrip Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Since I like to use 9-46's, I have a hard time trying to find other brands besides Dean Markley's Blue steels that have this gauge. So, I buy the 3 pack Gibson 9-46's from MF for $18.
sliptrip Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 http://www.webstrings.com/ Rich, is this place any good? are these strings worth it or cheap for a reason? I'm curious.

I got my stuff from these guys: http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/ Works out cheaper for me than buying them over here, but might not be as cheap for you guys with lots of options in the States. Jeez am I dopey today..

Yeah, it seems to me that there must be one guy working in the packaging department who winds the two strings together, usually the packet with the D string. Annoys the crap out of me. Rich' date=' is this place any good? are these strings worth it or cheap for a reason? I'm curious.[/quote'] I've been using their strings on all of my guitars for around two years now and they've been great. The only caveat is that all of their electric guitar strings are nickel wrapped so, if you like all steel or all nickel, they don't have those. Read this page on their web site for why they're so cheap: How We Do It
