I never saw what the big deal about Carlos Santana is his music is the most boring music i have ever heard.

.....I think people started making a huge deal about him after he did that song with the dorky singer from Matchbox 20.

Don't forget that rockin' Michelle Branch collaboration!

Not a fan myself, he has talent though...

Back in the day Carlos was phenomenal! He has amazing tone and an unmistakable sound. The newer stuff sucks' date=' imho, but his older tunes are excellent. You youngsters are crazy![/quote']

Not just your opinion KS... the new stuff is **** but the old stuff was great (maybe it all started turning to **** when he decided to use PRS guitars:-" )

I never liked his stuff even before the PRS jump, Every time i listen to Carlos i feel like jumping out a 22 story window and slitting my throat on the way down.

Maybe a bit over exaggerated but still his stuff sounds like ****.

Really? weird' date=' I can see some people not liking him and his style (same lick over and over), but thinking his tone suck so bad?[/quote']

Yes his tone sounds like God kicking a baby in the head and his solos sound like scratching on a chalk board.

My little nephew who is two can come up with better riffs than Santana.

Damn... that kid must be a real artist!

Seriously... I think Santana is highly overrated, but still has some great songs and still is better than other overrated players. Maybe if he had a couple more licks people would think better of him.

On a side note, he gave a show here last month, and as much as I like his old stuff I didnt attend... those ****ers were charging 500 bucks for front row seats!!! Talk about overated, needless to say the thing sold out within a couple of days.

Thundergod We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature

Why can't we just agree to like some artists and dislike others without resorting to mud-slinging and the whole "my tastes are SO much better then YOUR tastes" or "this guitar player is a piece of doggy doo-doo" thing.

Anybody who is out there making music gets my respect, even when I don't like it. And that covers a load of the stuff some people on here think is wonderful - I can't listen to it for too long..... but I respect the musos for going out there and doing their thing. Respect and credit for having the artistry they have. Constructive criticism is a good thing, comments like "his tone sounds like God kicking a baby in the head and his solos sound like scratching on a chalk board" may be your opinion - but don't really help the picker, his fans OR his detractors.

My take is along the "earlier stuff good, later stuff (post mid seventies for me.....) average" lines - but respect for the man - he's still pickin' and gigging for a living, not stocking shelves at Walmart.

Carlos is ok' date=' but he plays the same riff over and over.[/quote']

D Dorian modal I believe.

A natural minor scale with a raised sixth degree.

Over and over and over.

Some people don't seem to understand the difficult concept that music is entirely subjective.

It doesn't matter how lame the song he did with Michelle Branch is, these four albums make Carlos Properly Rated:

Santana

Abraxas

Santana III

Zebop

And I thought Smooth kicked buns.
