albertjohn Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 "Please leave your politics at reception." For those of us with access to the wonder that is the BBC, Yusuf was live on Jools Holland last night. Looked and sounded very, very good. Longer version of the show is recorded and shown on friday night. Do you colonial chaps get it on cable or sattelite perhaps? He was playing a jumbo shaped plain Gibson, not big and ornate like a J200, probably a CJ165? A fabulous sound was being produced all round! Anyone else see it?
H Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Haven't seen it - yet but I've just set the Sky+ to record it via my iPhone at work. The joys of modern technology
TommyK Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 haven't seen it but would love to. Will probably show up on YouTube. I dispensed with the expense of cable years ago. I also suspect satellite will be much more of the same, 250 channels of nothing much to watch, most of the time. Honestly, I've been to my son's house to babysit the grandkids. Of the 200 odd dish channels, I seldom find much worth watching. Occaisionally I'll come up with some Nashville music show, Austin City Limits, or a vintage C/W variety show, but not often. Usually a good movie after lights-out, but 'tain't worth the price of admission, in my book. I am content with my roof mounted rabbit ears that pick up 3 channels on a good day.
chengin Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I thought the guitar looked very small (not that au fait with acoustic models), based on the fact that I always figured he was a small little guy, so when the guitar looked small then it must have been tiny!

If this concert in question shows up on YouTube, I'll check it out. If not, not.
Hall Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 albertjohn, I just read the entire prior thread on the man I knew as, Cat Stevens. I like music first and there is a lot of discussion beyond music there. I wish this "colonial chap" had BBC music broadcasts! All I can get is BBC news. I use it as a contrast. Have you seen the available netflix I mentioned at the end of the other thread? It is interesting, but different. Are you hacked because the thread left his music in the dust? I was a lover of Cat's music and still play his first four albums. What am I missing now? Somewhere there is an existing film of him from the early 70ies sitting on a stool with a second and playing that famous guitar. It's one of those just singing and playing up close shows we rarely get to see. I wish we had access to the BBC music productions going all the way back to the awakening. In the beginning, I heard Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas, John Lodge and Grame Edge doing a BBC performance there, over the radio here, on a program called, Jelly Pudding Sat. nights at midnight. First time I hear the mellotron, songs from DOFP and their new Lost Chord album. Never missed another show. Some were BBC, some were from the continent; but all were miles ahead at that time. I got into music far deeper in the 60ies from those programs on short and FM bands at midnight here than anything else available. So, some of us chaps did have our heads on straight way back when, and our ears and minds were both wide open as to what we were hearing. Made me go from "Twist & Shout" to "Tuesday Afternoon" before the Lava Lamp warmed.

The joys of modern technology Bloody hell H, I can barely set the Sky+ to record. I too can set it from work. I wait for Albert (eldest) to get home from school and ring him!
albertjohn Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 There's a lot to be said for servitude You're welcome, Sir.
Murph Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 "Please leave your politics at reception." I find that very offensive. Okay? It's literally all he does, and I can't comment on it? Give me a break. Murph.
ballcorner Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Do you colonial chaps get it on cable or sattelite perhaps? I think you missed the fall of the British Empire. There are no colonies anymore. There are Falkland War brides - but they are all baaaaaaaaaaaaad.

H Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Wrong - we have significant bacterial colonies in most NHS hospitals.
