LP Standard w/60's neck

My LP Standard w/60's neck is on it's way! I just learned that they have discontinued this guitar. Probably making room for the Plus version is my guess but, why would they do that? I certainly wouldn't want a LP with the 50's fat neck and I'm not so sure about the asymmetrical neck. I would think they would want to keep the options open.

What do you think?

I dont like the new asymmestrical neck. I thought the option of 50s or 60s was brilliant. I dont know what those guys are thinking, Im seriously considering getting an 60s neck standard at my local store (even though its black and i dont want black) while its still there

They don't show it on the Gibson site and a few of the websites I looked at said it was discontinued and they no longer carry them. If it's true I think they're making a big mistake.....

The LP6+ (Standard 60's neck) was discontinued about a year ago, just prior to the introduction of the new 2008 Standard with the asymmetrical neck. Many dealers were clearing them out at prices below the last MAP price of $2529.00. I presume that you just ordered one of the very few Desert Burst 60's Neck Standards (LP6+DBNH1) that were "lost" in the distribution center and recently purchased by Musician's Friend. Other than that group, there may be a few lingering around local shops, but for the most part they have been long gone since last summer. Enjoy your new LP. I favor the 60's neck myself.

Yep! You nailed it! I typically wouldn't buy a high end guitar without playing it first but with my trusty Musicians Friend credit card, it was the only why this was going to happen. I would bet that the 60's neck won't be gone for good. There are too many players out there that will make their voice heard.

Exactly.

It will be introduced in a new guitar at some point, and available for those who really want it.

You don't have to go back very many years to find that the LP Classic was the ONLY way to get a 60's neck.

It became a regular production option on the Standard in only recently - 2002.

My guess is Gibson uses limited production/select models with certain production traits to gauge market interest.

If it sells well and gets good reviews, they will make it more common in the product line.

They are pushing the new 2008 Standard with the goofy profile now, so dropping the slim neck is a way to nudge buyers toward it. There will always be lots of buyers for the traditional 50's profiles.

I LOVE the slim neck myself, both my Les Pauls have it - along with all my other Gibsons.

You're lucky to get it. There were only just over a dozen of them, and they got them several weeks ago. That particular model is really equipped nicely... great pickups, nice slim neck... the all around great LP from Gibson USA (vs C/S). Enjoy it, and try not to agonize about whether or not to install the pickguard..... (there are only about 500 threads on the forum about that controversy)... Enjoy! (Who knows what the next 60's neck model might be)???

No pick guard for me! Don't need it and wouldn't want to cover up the gorgeous top! I just hope they give me one that doesn't fade to a thick band of black. I would rather have as much wood grain showing as possible. It's supposed to be here Tuesday or Wednesday next week. I'll post pics of it and my other babies then.
