mathieu.cote
Hey Gibson fans, I'm currently bidding on a Gibson "The Paul" from 1980 and while the guitar seems legit, the pickups completely baffle me. Usually these guitars come with T-tops or later with Dirty Fingers. These seem to be either and the base plate looks weird with no pole pieces showing. I'm no pickup specialist but I've done a bit of research and have no idea what these (in the pictures) might be. Anybody would care to chime in and offer an opinion? Thanks! Phil OKeefe
Can you make out what the patent number is? I can not tell from your photo, and that might provide a clue.
mathieu.cote
It’s hard to read but I believe it says Pat No. 2787 or 2587, not sure. Thanks for the help!
Phil OKeefe
Sorry, those numbers are not pulling up anything relevant for me when I search. I'm not an expert on pickups, but I did own a late 70s The Paul (I bought it new... my first Gibson!) and it did indeed have open coil, double black bobbin T-Tops on it stock.
