rar
Anne and i dropped by Eric Schoenberg's shop in Tiburon today, which is probably the best more-or-less local source for vintage Gibson's. He had a couple of new-to-the-shop ones in which were really nice, a 1957 CF-100 (non-E) -- which, if you don't know, is basically an LG-2 with a Florentine cutaway -- and a 1934 Jumbo. Eric thinks that CF-100s typically sound better than LG-2s, and that this one is an especially good sounding CF-100. I don't have much experience with these, so I can't disagree. It certainly is a very nice sounding little guitar, in excellent condition. But the one I really got a kick out of was Jumbo. It has been refinished (very nicely, not like those abominations FlipItFast tried to sell on eBay) and has a few repaired cracks, but this is a really fine guitar, with the most powerful midrange I have ever heard and phenomenal note separation. Great both fingerpicked and flatpicked. Much cooler sounding than the other '34 Jumbo I got to play a couple of years ago. I spent a half hour or so with it, sitting on a bench out in the sunshine, and would have loved to been able to take it home, but it's not exactly inexpensive. Eric's got some other nice Gibsons in stock too -- a '54 SJN and a '63 C&W, for example -- so, if you're in the area, I'd recommend that you stop by. -- Bob R P. S. Why, no, I don't have a financial interest in the shop. I have made donations from time to time, though.
Gilliangirl
Bump back to the top.... not sure everyone saw this yet. You guys are so lucky to get those kinds of guitars down there. We NEVER, I say NEVER, see guitars like that up here. I am constantly scanning Craigslsit, Kijiji, and the Vintage store but no vintage Gibsons to be found.
