FirstMeasure Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Rio Bravo (didn't even have to think about it) Followed closely by: Quiet Man Searchers Red River Sands of Iwo Jima
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 idk, i never really enjoyed quite man sand of iwo jima is good, but the flying tigers is my favorite john wayne WW2 movie
KSG_Standard Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 True Grit Big Jake The Shootist The Quiet Man
Californiaman Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 "I haven't lost my temper in 40 years; but, Pilgrim, you caused a lot of trouble this morning; might have got somebody killed; and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't. I won't. The hell I won't!" McKlintock. But I also like the Rio Bravo and True Grit. He won best actor in True Grit.
FirstMeasure Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 idk' date=' i never really enjoyed quite mansand of iwo jima is good, but the flying tigers is my favorite john wayne WW2 movie[/quote'] If it weren't for the love interest in Flying Tigers, I'd agree with you. It's a close call between those two. Quiet man is one of my favorite movies, but it's not because of John Wayne, the supporting cast really sold that one. Ward Bond actually had to act in that movie.
KSG_Standard Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Can't forget "the man who shot liberty valence"
FirstMeasure Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Oh yeah, ad that to my top Five! "Gimme that Bung Starter!"
Thundergod Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Not a J.W. fan at all... (cant stand the guy), more of a Clint Eastwood fan...
charlie brown Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Wow! What a question! Difficult, but I've always loved "The Quiet Man," "Flying Leathernecks," "Sands Of Iwo Jima," and "The Shootist!" But, if you like/love "John Wayne," they're all good/great in their own way. (LOL...How's that for non-committal?) CB
dc3c46 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Not a J.W. fan at all... (cant stand the guy)' date=' more of a Clint Eastwood fan... [/quote']+1 Could never stand the dude either. I'm a Clint guy too.
FirstMeasure Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Clint's got some Attitude and a few good lines, and I love a good Spagetti Western, but nothing he made compares to John Wayne in a John Ford or Howard Hawks production.
Homz Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I must admit. I like 'The Green Berets'. Political commentary aside for the sake of this thread. It is a classic hero driven war story. I like a good hero story.
MikeRom Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Boy what a toughie. Favorites Quiet Man Rio Bravo Liberty Valance That's when a man was a man
tuckomf Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Not a J.W. fan at all... (cant stand the guy)' date=' more of a Clint Eastwood fan... [/quote'] I'm the exact opposite. Unless Clint is acting next to an orangutan named Clyde, I want no part of it. As for John Wayne, I'm tied between The Searchers and The Cowboys.
FirstMeasure Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I must admit. I like 'The Green Berets'. Political commentary aside for the sake of this thread. It is a classic hero driven war story. I like a good hero story. I liked Green Berets too, but it doesn't make the top ten because I'm a huge Star Trek fan. I just couldn't see Sulu as a tough South Vietnamese Army tough guy.
Bluemoon Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 +1 Could never stand the dude either. I'm a Clint guy too. +1 JW is a terrible actor.
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 ignore the fact that i am trying to become as jimmy page (feminine glamorus sex/guitar god, rockstar-esk as possible) john wayne is the man that we all want to grow up to be, calm, cool, wise, heroic, and brave clint eastwood too often portrays a badd@$$ with a quick trigger finger
retrosurfer1959 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Big Jake,Chisolm, El Dorado Classic I can remember sitting in the theater as a child watching them over and over...
gosgirl Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Rio Bravo (didn't even have to think about it) Followed closely by: Quiet Man Searchers Red River Sands of Iwo Jima I agree with Quiet Man is my favorite! ______________________________ X Files seasons1-9dvd The Wire seasons1-5dvd
macklanders Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Red River - Number One Fave! The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance Rio Bravo El Dorado She Wore A Yellow Ribbon Searchers
TommyK Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 McLintock! Because it contains my favorite John Wayne line. "...and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't, I won't. The *hell* I won't! "
mr newhaven Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 i liked john wayne in that movie "The Longest Day" about D-Day...even though it wasnt a western and even though it had a pretty outstanding ensemble cast...(Sean Connery as a bag-pipe player for example) i thought he was pretty badass! when it comes to westerns the spaghetti variety are still my favorite by far...even more so than those with The Duke...sorry to say
