Is Gibson moving to Canada or something?

I noticed that my new J45 MC was built in Bozemen, but the inferior black lined case was built in Canada. I am not impressed by the poor craftsmanship of the case. Let's hope the guitars stay here.

Rant has ended now..........;)

No, the cases are made in Canada (don't shoot the messenger LOL). Gibson acoustic is still in Bozeman. Altho' they did buy the Garrison factory in Newfoundland (Newfoundland?) But the cases have always been made in Canada. My case is in good shape. Is yours of poor quality?

Yeah my case sucks, the walls kept falling down until I got it broken in; still have trouple with one of them and there are multiple folds on the bottom. I wrote Gibson but nada. The lining is blash and not very plush as with the previous cases. Hey what happened to the molded looking top of the case?. Now it's just flat across. When I used to just see a Gibson case I knew it screamed quality. Oh well at least the guitar's a good player. Eh.

That doesn't sound at all like my case. Mine's an arch top, well-stitched, and the hinges work great. The lining (blue) was so thick I had trouble getting the guitar in the case for awhile. Mind you, I bought mine back in 2006.

Well I think things have changed or someone did a switcheroo at the store. Now they are black and say Gibson acoustics. My Epiphone casino case from the early 2000's is much better quality. Sad but true. Oh well.

I wish Gibson would move to Canada

This is not a Canada bash since I think Canada could make just as good a guitar. The necks would have to be attached dovestyle though. It would just not be a good idea PR wise.

PS: I downloaded 'Revival' last night. Fantastic Album!

TKL has many different levels of cases. Gibson uses the middle of the road case quality from TKL. Martin uses them also so does Bourgeois. Martin uses 2 different quality levels so does Gibson. If you buy a custom shop acoustic you get the upper level case. If you buy a Martin vintage Golden Age ect you get the upper level.

With Collings you always get the top level TKL. The uper level cases are as good as you can get in a 5 ply case. ;) suburude

The case on my 2001 SongBird Deluxe seems to be better quality. The leather tag on the accessories compartment does say TKL. It also has the old "Gibson - tone, feel, appearance" logo on the side. Good solid case. The case that came with my 2008 Southern Jumbo True Vintage looks like the same case but the leather tag inside now says Gibson and the logo on the outside just says "Gibson Acoustic". The top doesn't line-up exactly true, but a case is just a case! For the money I did expect the brown tolex, pink/lavender case with my SJ-TV, but it came with what they had I reckon. Anyway, the quality standards of the newer cases does seem to be a bit cheaper to me. But the guitars remain to be top-notch!

Fred' date=' I knew it was TKL but I thought they were made in Canada? It looks like they're made in Virginia. Oh well, learned something new today. I wish Gibson would move to Canada :-D[/quote']

TKL may be operating out of VA, but the four TKL cases I own all say "Made in Canada." Another case says "CJJ," and it is flimsy and MIC, as well. It looks like it is lined with dog fur. An older (seventies?) Gibson case that came with my SJ was MIC, and built by a company called "Archcraft," I think. It looks like Canada has the market cornered on cases.

Canada has been making cases forever, seems like. I've had good luck with them except for one big 17" I bought from a company in Newfoundland. That may have just been where the seller was based out of... not sure where the case was actually made in Canada.

Pee-yoooo. It smelled like a boy's locker room on a humid day. I emailed them and OF COURSE got the standard responses that:

1. They have never had a complaint like that.

2. Maybe something happened to it in shipping.

3. Glues and other materials may cause an odor and it will go away (glue and fur doesn't smell like sweat folks).

4. It's probably all in my head.

I love it when companies aren't accountable for their product. When a consumer complains, the manufacturer may very well deny or refute the claim, that's their right to do so (once the consumer has at least stated their case), but it seems like the default setting for their canned immediate response is to deny any problem and discredit the consumer.

Where is the accountability? Where is it?

Oops, I work for the federal government so maybe I should shut up.

I bought a tan Gibson case for my Chet Atkins from eBay a long while back. The ad had the usual 'smoke and pet-free home' yet the case smelled like it had sat open in a jazz club for 20 years...

I left it out in the sun for four days and the smell cleared completely - mind you, that four days of sun took the best part of two weeks elapsed time thanks to the unpredictable English weather =D>

By the way, I came across a brand new word in DonCarlos' post above - what does 'blash' mean?
