Getting the Best Deal

Well I found out something I didn't know about getting the best possible deal. I met someone who was a good friend of a co-owner of a particular favorite guitar shop of mine. I told him that I was going to get a 339 as my next purchase from them. They gave me $900 off the lowest price that GC offered for my Premium Plus, so I don't go anywhere else to get guitars. He told me to wait until the Gibson rep comes around because the owner can "squeeze another few hundred bucks off" from him. So on top of the deal I get from the co-owner I can get another slash in price from the Gibson rep too!!

Anybody else ever heard of this?

Everyone is hurting now and they already have the bottom line. If yor serious and have the cash any dealer will deal; just dont expect all the case goodies if you get them too close to the bottom line

I guess it depends what goodies you are not going to get? A case is easily picked up as is the candy off the bay but a COA is a whole different matter......

Sorry rocket man just posted a reply in the hollow body section suggesting a few add ons I always ask for thought it might be teaching a nanny to suck eggs but looks like you're well up to speed. Over here people are a little shy of asking for discounts sweeteners etc. Good tip on the rep thanks.

Sound advice too. I always ask for add ons on top of the discount I normally get too. It certainly never hurts. My family is from the old country (Greece) where they haggled for everything (including food!). They taught me well. When I bought my Taylor I also got a couple packs of Elixir strings on top of my deal. Usually when I state "I've bought a bunch of guitars from you already and I'm a relatively young guy, so I want to continue buying all of my guitars from you for the rest of life, including for my kid and for my future generations," it helps to get an even lower price.

The economy has nothing to do with it. It's who you know, not what you know.

Good stuff, Rocketman. Congrats on the soon to be 339.

Yeah I agree. These deals were there well before the economy tanked. But surely it's helping to possibly get an even better deal if you play your cards right. I don't know what will happen with the 339 because there is a demand/supply issue (on some sites it states that the earliest you can get one is August!). So I may have to wait a bit until the supply catches up with the demand. Doesn't hurt to ask now though and see what happens...
