Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say that I'm a proud new 2008 Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded (that's what the guy at Guitar Center called it...seems just like the Vintage Mahogany) in Cherry!

A few questions, how does the guitar age? Will the finish color change at all? Does the finish get glossy at all at contact points (like a Fender Highway One would)?

Thanks!

No, it's actually the one listed as the "Les Paul Vintage Mahogany" at Musician's Friend (didn't know they had an actual Studio Faded model...guess neither did the Guitar Center guy!)

I'll post a pic after I get home from work.

they're usually called vintage mahogany but some people call them studio faded, same guitars though. i have an 04 model, and it is aging well. i really like the look of it, some parts are turning a tiny bit more orange than the red like as if it were fading between the red to the natural wood color kind of creating it's own version of a sunburst. it's very minor though, not noticable further than 2-3 feet away. and yes parts where your hands or arm touch the guitar when playing will become glossy, i mostly noticed the glossiness near where my hand turns the knobs, theres like a curve exactly where my hand fits. hope that helps... i really like the way your case looks with the white interior, i'm jealous.

Thanks guys!

wizdomcube, great input! did yours not come with the white case interior?

Has anyone fully buffed/glossed up a Vintage Mahogany? Is it just a thin unbuffed finish?

i'm guessing the white interior is new? i bought mine in may '05, and my interior is black. by the way, like i said mine is an '04 as in the serial number says it was made in october '04 and i bought it new from musiciansfriend in may '05, is that normal for it to be made that long ago before it was shipped?

I bought mine in 06 and it has the white interior and a "Made In Canada" sticker. MF can let things hang around that long although I'd have thought they'd turn their stock faster than that.

FWIW, the LPVM is not a "Faded Studio"; the Faded Studio has 490/498 pickups which are standard on Studios and a maple top.

Here in the UK if you buy a Gibson NEW from a Gibson dealer it will have been at least a year since it left the factory! (IN MY EXPERIENCE)

Nice Faded!

i wasn't saying it is a studio faded, i was just saying some people call them studio faded probably because it came after the sg special faded and the flying v faded, so i'm guessing people started calling them studio faded, though it's proper name was vintage mahogany, and now that there actually is a studio faded model it must get confusing for some people. also, mine had a sticker with the red maple leaf, and i always thought that was for the musicians friend items that can be shipped to canada, i don't think the cases are made in canada.

Congrats ! I love mine. My other guitarist has one too, they rule. The burstbuckers are great, I'm gonna play the hell out of mine and not worry about the finish.

That reranch link is pretty interesting...though I really wasn't looking for a complete refinish O:) Something more along the lines of just using a polishing kit or something (I use the Fender by Meguiar's Guitar Care Kit on my Highway One Strat, and it shined it right up).

Oh and by the way, something interesting of note, from a little poking around it sounded like the VM's came with the thicker 50's neck...my '08 has the thinner 60's neck, I wonder if it's an oddball, or if they're changing to the slimmer neck.

man' date=' i really want a vintage mahogany. I'm 14 so its kinda hard to get money but ive saved up for a few months now. Almost There![/quote']

yeach i'm 14 too and i just got a vm in october. it's my first gibson, electric, and guitar that works well (my cheap epi acoustic is faulty). i really love it but am probably gonna refinish it and add body binding when i get the time and money. it's definitely one of my favorite sounding guitars. definitely worth the money! good luck saving, i'm saving for a gibson acoustic right now (black songwriter special).

Anyone have any experience with the Gibson Luthier's Choice Hi-Gloss polish? Is this something that'd take a dull finish and gloss it up?

I bought my SG Special Faded a few months ago when I was 12 and it took me 2 and a half years to save up for it! But every time I play it, it's all the more rewarding.....
