starcommand79
This kind of finish is like this on both sides where the neck meets the body. Is this normal? It plays nice, not sure I want to go through the process of a return, but what do you guys think?
SteveFord
The pride in their workmanship is readily apparent.
ksdaddy
Wow, someone was asleep. Personally, if I liked the guitar, I’d keep it.
Eracer_Team
Looks like what is called “orange peel” that’s where the buffing wheel can’t get into a spot to smooth out the nitro
starcommand79
I purchased this directly from Gibson. I'd send it back but I do like the guitar. My hangup is that I'd get one that's worse! Have they ever offered some sorta discount for an issue like this?

I think Kalamazoo was union, and it says so in the labels from there. Memphis (when there) and Nashville are not union. Gibson Guitar has long had a reputation of being a hard-nosed employer. In 1985, Gibson Guitars famously closed its unionized factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan to set up shop non-union in Nashville. Edited January 4 by Sgt. SteveFord
That's enough to keep me from buying anything direct from them. Although if that Kermit The Frog J-45 pops up again I might have to jump.
Pinch
Gibson QC is spotty. Keep an extra hundred for whatever your local luthier will have to fix. Most of the time it's just minor cosmetic stuff though.

I’m giving them out free. The second one is gonna cost ya. Edited January 4 by Sgt. Pepper

I know. But only Gibsons sound like Gibsons to me. It's a trade-off, albeit an unfair one at current prices. But I hear ya.
