Johnt
Been having an "internal battle" in the void where my brain used to be! Guild JF55 12 string?, J200 ? but I have ended up buying a SWD! So dutifully reading through the forum I see that several folk have commented on setup ex factory. Mine seems high and strings are heavy. So am looking to get it set up and want to benefit from others experience. My fave guitar is my J45 which is strung with Elixir 10s and I fine it so easy to play (well I only know 4 chords!!) The plan for the SWD is to have the action dropped a little, replace those awful; plastic bridge pins (anyone know where I can get some authentic bone or wodd) and re-string with 10s Anything else I should watch out for? Oh hell I still hanker after a J200!!!
guitarstrummer
I have a SWD 12 string and really love mine. Although, mine was set up just fine right from the factory for me. I did switch out the bridge pins. Here's a great place to get some bone pins. http://www.guitarsaddles.com/ This place also has all sorts of pins. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Bridge-End-Pin-Set-Bone/T1115 As far as strings, I've been using D'Addario lights on mine. I need to find a luthier close to me who can advise me what to do about the SWD and also about the J45 which could do with a re-fret. Then we'll get in touch with Bob! BTW do you know what material the nut and saddle are made from on the SWD? Can't find info. Really appreciate your help strummer and my wife and I had a good smile at your slogon. guitarstrummer
The original saddle and nut are bone. I can't take credit for the slogan, but I like it and it seems appropriate. I don't think anyone really knows who actually came up with it first. Variations of it have been used by several famous people.
albertjohn
Hi Johnt. I live in Essex and have lessons/gig with Dr Robert who runs a workshop in South Suffolk. He is an expert in all things Gibson and can certainly sort you a refret etc. Send me an email on pforsey@gmail.com if you would like me to put you in touch or google Dr Roberts Guitar Surgery for more info.
