deepblue Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Who are we kidding guys... This forum is becoming boring and the "non guitar" topics far exceed real guitar or music scenarios. Im not bad mouthing anyone or pointing fingers, but this has turned more into a Facebook style chat. If I had to sum it up in music terms " The thrill is gone"
RichCI Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I'd love some more discussion on guitar and related topics. I rarely start threads because, well, I don't find a lot to say about it - I don't read music and have very little formal training so I have no comments about music theory and I'm pretty well set with my gear and, at the risk of sounding like an elitist, feel I know more about it than most people. So, I stick to answering questions and debunking BS. If people start more threads about guitars, I'll jump in if I have something to say.
Homz Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 It's not the forum it's the lounge. This is what happens when a group of people actually start liking each other and get past the pleasantries. It's like being at a pub with your buds and that other table is the one with Neo, KSG, Murph etc.. People go from table to table buying shots and talking about the band that's about to come on, politics, the economy. They never talk about the weather and they never whine about the quality of the conversation. Just having a group of folks that you can shoot the sh1t with is enough. So get a beer, throw a game of darts, have a conversation, or listen to the band.
daveinspain Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Yeah but that's whats good about this forum.... For serious guitar chat we have the SG room or the LP room or the Semi Hollow room, or the Custom room....etc It doesn't have to be boring. Those of us that have been here a long time have seem and commented on most of the regular type stuff you see in a guitar forum. I still fine I have questions and I run into problems as I have not been actually playing as long as most of you. It is amazing though how much I have learned in a short period, over the past two years.... So if i get bored there are plenty of other places on this forum to go to...
pumpkin Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Who are we kidding guys... This forum is becoming boring and the "non guitar" topics far exceed real guitar or music scenarios. Im not bad mouthing anyone or pointing fingers' date=' but this has turned more into a Facebook style chat. If I had to sum it up in music terms " The thrill is gone"[/quote'] out of the 15 threads on page 1... 6 are not music/guitar related. including this thread. it says on the list of topics available that: The Gibson Lounge (22 Viewing) You asked for it! Here is your place for all things all topic, and at large. so, isnt this place supposed to be for all the "non guitar related" stuff?
RichCI Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 That's true, pumpkin, but Gibson originally put up this board because we'd all ***** about not being able to discuss "other" guitar gear, including that from other companies. On the Les Paul forum, it wasn't uncommon to see threads with titles like "Which amplifier would be best to get a good blues tone WITH MY LES PAUL?" If you weren't talking about Les Pauls, your thread would get deleted so finally Gibson gave us this board to discuss whatever we want. I like some of the completely off topic stuff, but I wouldn't mind a little more guitar gear talk.
TheLiveSoundGuy Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I don't understand. I keep hearing over and over again, people whining and crying like babies about the lounge. If you guys think the lounge is done, and you want more guitar type discussions, the try these: http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=forum&c=2 http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=forum&c=3 http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=forum&c=7 http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=forum&c=10
Thundergod Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Maybe those of us that feel that way should start posting more giutar, music and gear related threads. I'll try to do it, the lounge really has become something different than what we wished for and expected, but that doesn't have to obe a bad thing.

Ignotum-Per-Ignocious Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Quit *****in' about the number of non-guitar-related threads. This is the non-guitar-related section of the forums. If you wanna talk guitars, start a thread. This thread counts as a non-guitar-related thread. I like the lounge and all its inhabitants. When I have nothing to talk about with guitars or spotting fakes in the les paul section gets boring it's nice here. There's nowhere near as many political threads as there used to be. I didn't mind them though. Oh yeah... hi, I'm new. But I've lurking so I think I know you guys pretty well.

Homz Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 So this non-guitar, music, or arts oriented post will end up with 6 pages of people saying "yeah man your right about that". Then there will be a bunch others saying "that's what the lounge is for". Can we just post a few Jimmy Page vids and call it a music related thread. I swear to god I am going to make function key on my computer keyboard for these threads.

Oh and I as a representative of the Lounge I will need to inform you that Jimmy Page is the only true god. Just saying.

Les Paul Siverburst, Black Beauty, Vintage Mahogany, Dg-335, White Firebird, Dove, Black SG custom w/ vibrola. I like a couple prs, grestch and fenders but I still prefer the Gibsons in almost all cases. You wish! You Thunder, and Axe® still dukin' out the rights for that title? So does this me that Jeesus-is-Dead-in-my-basement: 1)Is Jimmy Page 2)Has Jimmy Page dead In his basement 3)will have Jimmy in his basement eventually or 4)Jimmy is in his attic Hmm... I think we need to preform a property search asap!
G u e s t Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 OK - I hacked in to the Gibson server and fixed the Forum software so there is a key combination which will prevent the NON-guitar stuff irritating you if you can't take it any more. Two finger key press and you will not be troubled by NON-guitar posts until your next login. Go ahead, try it, just press: [Alt] and [F4] at the same time.

Homz Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Yep. the wicked1 and I first chatted in a IRC chat room called 'Atheism'. That was 1995.
G u e s t Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Does JANet mean anything to you? We used to hang off ARPANet? Back in '77 I was hanging out on a PDP-11 in London - you can see us down on the bottom right hand side: Been stuck in the durned interweb thingumyjig ever since.....
Thundergod Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 i knew you were going to say that. I knew you knew:-"
DaHooomie Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 i know. Do you guys know each other? This is starting to get a little creepy..
