Hercules guitar rest

I just bought a Hercules guitar stand and was wondering if the material that touches the guitar could damage the finish. I know that the booklet that came with my studio said that it will, but on the description for the product, it says that it wont damage. I'm probably just gonna cover it with a cloth anyways but figured I'd ask. Thanks

All of my stands are Hercules and never a problem. sometimes a certain guitar will sit in a stand for a month or more and never a blemish.

I do keep a cover over the guitar but not the stand.

Wrap anything that comes in contact with your guitar in white cotton.

White cotton...? I just use a pair of dark blue socks. I it won't damage the guitar?

i have all three of my guitars on hercules wall hangers, too soon to tell if the les paul finish will be damaged so ill try the sock effect for good measure just to be sure

Apparently Hercules hangars are 'Nitro Safe' and shouldn't give you any grief with your finish. Cheap stands may cause a bit of what's called Nitro Burn which discolours the lacquer, turning it an offish yellow and/or a slight possibility of bubbling.

But saying that I've got the most minging, cheap Stagg stand that my '52 RI Telecaster has sat on for years and nothing nasty has happened yet, but I won't chance my LP on it just incase the Nitro is of a different ilk.
