signature guitars? yes? no?

Les Pauls are signature guitars by the way.

I do not like or dislike them based on the fact that they are signatures or not, if a guitar has the set of specifications that I like and happens to be a signature guitar I would buy it.

Depends on the guitar. I'm not a PRS fan, but one of the Santana models (with brazillian rosewood) is quite interesting to me. But who can afford a $10k+ guitar. Mostly I am under the firm opinion that a Gibson LP Standard is the best sounding guitar that exists. I don't know how one improves on perfection. But that's just my opinion.

Nah.

All the makers have gone way overboard with the sig models anyway. If an artist had a guitar customized in some innovative and unique way and it created a stir I might understand them getting a signature model but not just because they have a fan club and they play a certain model.

I like them, they give you pretty good insite to the artist. Like if it's just a throw together basic model that looks kinda like the Artist, then you know they're just in it for a little dough. But you take the Jimmy Vaughan Strat, he really cares about music, blues, and working musicians. His MIM strat has a one peice maple neck, Tex Mex pick ups, popular vintage colors, and His Signature on the Back. That's what impressed me most, he wanted the buyer to have a suped up classic looking Strat for the stage that looks just like a nice classic strat from the audience. No Ego What so ever.

Eric Johnsons Strat is so different from traditional strat it almost need a new name.

The Gary Moore Les Paul is quite a creation, too. Without him there wouldn't be an "Affordable" BFG Les Paul (By Affordable I mean less that $3,500)

Plus they give people something besides Beanie Babies to collect.

Everyone here is trying to play like their heros in some way or another.

Not everyone. I am my own hero.

I don't play covers nor do I want to.

I don't follow whats trendy or now".

I saw a demo for one of those. I'm not into that sort of aesthetic style but it was actually a pretty cool guitar.

I'm not one of signature models. There are exceptions (the Dg-335 was awesome) but generally I wouldn't pick one out.

Its one of the best guitar for distortion out there right now...

They're cool depending on what they are...Sometimes they have some nice upgrades too....I own several different signature model guitars, and for me it's never been about going after someone else's tone as much as it was I just liked the guitar and who it was made for....I'll admit I used certain artists specs to figure out what I liked, but it was only a starting point.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of those Clapton cut AXEs...

There's a lot of big names that use a Clapton Strat, like Mike Rutherford. So one day there might be a Mike Rutherford signarure Eric Clapton Strat.

Has it ever been debated on here whether or not a Les Paul is a Signature guitar or not.

I always said no right up until I found and purchased the Warren Haynes Signature. No name or marking of any kind on it on it anywhere just a perfect guitar with my favorite features included.

Starts as a plain top R8

Solid Mahogany body not weight relieved

Bone Nut

Schaller installed at factory

BB pickups

CAE unity Gain Preamp installed with microswitch

The only thing that remotely has anything to do with Warren Haynes is the COA which has a picture of him holding the guitar and his signature. Warren actually is my favorite player alive and probably second favorite after Duane Allman so I actually enjoy having a guitar like his. It doesn't make me sound like Warren (damn that would have been nice) but he does know what a guitar should have on it and it's now my #1

Man, I'm starting to like you a lot more (yeah, I know, you probably don't give a sh!t).

No. No sigs for me. Except if it's something really innovative and really different and hyper cool (like LPs). I love listening to Yngwie J. Malmsteen, but I wouldn't like a guitar with his name on it. Just like they have their personal taste on what qualities their guitars have, so do I.

I believe that there's nothing sadder than trying to sound like someone else. It's like not having a personal voice or emotion or I don't know.

One love stars
