i have a les paul i bought used a while back, i would like to find out more about, like when it was made,an how many were made,an maybe what its worth. it has a thinner body than my 2007 studio an also was made without a pickguard,. but it weighs the same . on the truss rod cover it says [ THE PAUL] ive never seen onother one like it.wouldnt sell it for anything, but i am curious.other than the thinner body an no pick guard it is made exactally like my studio.the serial no. is 92458458, oh yea it only has 8 numbers an my studio has 9 ,also it came stock with emg-hz pickups.

The one above (Pippy's) looks like an original walnut, The Paul. The only original, The Pauls I have seen are 78 & 79. Memory test on an old freak. Seems like 78 you could get mahogany , 79 Walnut. I have a 79 The Paul and I repeat every chance I get it has the best neck of any instrument I own. Fretboard ebony, perfectly fretted and fast as they come. The Paul was put out as the "poor man's" Les Paul re: no frills of any sort, speed knobs Grovers, etc. It was valued at only $900 last time I looked. I bought mine new for $700 and was supposedly ripped. I wouldn't sell mine for love or money now. I put the buff and shine to it year after year and, now, everyone that sees, hears and plays it wants to buy it.

Pippy, mine looks like yours with the exception of mine having black speed dials and no pup covers. I see you keep your's moist and polished also.

Dennis, I never did a great deal of research on mine so please pardon any errors. I do not remember a finish model such as you describe being made in the originals. I think you have a The Paul II as, Homz is pointing out to you by the # and the fact the IIs had exactly that T.green finish and also t. red, if not more.

The Hall Groper is wise.

I own a '79 "The SG", and like he said, it was a budget guitar in it's day, but mine is a hammer. Sustain that will rattle your fillings unplugged, Solid Walnut, no chambers in this puppy, and the hottest "Velvet Brick" ever built.

Best of luck.

Murph.

I'm sorry to say that the guitar pictured isn't mine. I just posted the snap to try to help with dennisw's question.

I am, however, old enough to remember 'The Paul' when it came out and thought it was a great guitar. I'd like to have the chance to try one out nowadays (older and wiser) but they're pretty scarce in th UK. I also suspect that those who are fortunate enough to own one would be unlikely to let them go easily!
