Pick-ups Loose

Hey Guys, I'm kinda new here, but just have a quick question.

I just bought a 2005 SG, very nice. But the Pickups are loose in a way. You can wiggle them around, and move them around. Are they supposed to be like that?

Yeah, most humbuckers are just secured with screws centered on the top and bottom so you can rock them back and forth quite a bit. They shouldn't move on their own, but they wiggle back and forth if you press on them.

Ya but mine move so much that the Pickup is at a a weird angle. Like sometime it is regular, sometime it is at like a 45 degree angle to the strings and sounds funny when plugged in...

you might have to take out the pups on adjust the brackets a bit so the pup doesn't tilt on bracket mount. Some put a piece of foam in the cavity under the pup/bracket assembly to stabilize the tilting.

The "foam under the pickup" trick can work. but perhaps the springs are too short or even missing from the height adjustment screws. The springs create the tension on the mount that holds the pickup level but lets it pivot. Check the springs.......

Id suspect weak/missing springs if the wobble is excessive. I did once also have an issue with too long mounting screws that caused the pup to sit at an angle because they didnt fit the cavity straight up-and-down (but that PUP didnt wobble, it just sat at a wierd angle).
