Alfa Corse Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hello, It' s time to clean my SG so I need your advice. I have pump polish and hi gloss polish from Gibson, the finish looks dry. I think that pump polish is for cleaning finish and hardware, and that the hi glos is to protect the finish and make it brilliant. Is it possible to use those products on pickup covers? Thanks
Buc McMaster Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Try Virtuoso Polish........among the best out there. Much like a cream car wax......apply, dry, buff. Excellent product! Those watery pump polishes truly suck.......fit for the trash can and not much more.
nynvolt Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 They sell polish specific for pup covers but I have better luck just using a damp micro fiber, then wipe with a dry micro fiber. Same goes for the body and neck. I've used martins and gibsons guitar polish and it doesn't seem to work any better than the damp rag and they leave residue. About the only product I use anymore is old english furniture oil (lemon oil) on the fret board and then only every few months unless it's looking especially grimy.
dickey Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I use Nanowax on my guitars,Harleys, and vehicles--available in most auto part stores.
Alfa Corse Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 I cleaned my SG, lemon oil on the fretboard, new strings, setup, and Gibson polish .
ke3ee Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Martin guitar Polish.. missed a few smudges on the PK though Hey Alfa Course.. Nice Avatar
Twiz Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I cleaned my SG' date=' lemon oil on the fretboard, new strings, setup, and Gibson polish . Alfa Corse Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Thank you, I tested GHS Guitar gloss but result was very bad with white marks

Thanks [/quote'] +1 on the Virtusos suggestion for your finish issue but NONE of these products will clean your hardware very well and most shouldn't even be tried. Find a metal cleaner formulated for whatever it is you have and make sure you don't get any on the body.
Alfa Corse Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 I use a wet soft cloth for the hardware, no more

VintageLuthier Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I found the best guitar polish I've used at my local Ace Hardware store. Doozy Furniture Polish. Oil & Wax free, and does an awesome job.
Rushview Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I've always used Gibson Pump Polish to clean my Gibbos down and never had any problems with it. Removes all the sticky crap off the neck and gives the guitar a nice shine. 2 squirts should do the trick, rub in, buff off with clean side and wipe the nickel/chrome/gold down with a clean side of the cloth that has no polish on it.
kruliosis Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Just use a microfiber cloth and a little spray of water if needed. Those polishes are just sales gimmicks, plus, they'll end up screwing up your finish. Just use Flaxseed oil for your fretboard. Lemon oil tends to dry out the wood over time.

Is it indeed an existing pick, or will we have to organize a production run? :-) It's almost a tiny Alfa meeting in here.. Anyway, Alfa Corse, ke3ee (with the Busso engine) and me (also with a Busso) need that pick. Yours, fellow Alfista and Gibsonist DJ --
Alfa Corse Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 Sorry but i don' t understand "ultimate pick", are your talking about the guitar or Alfa ?
DrJustice Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Heh, both! But what I'm thinking about is a 'plectrum'. Like in the the picture... it's the perfect shape and design. I never realized before that the Alfa grill is pick shaped :-) DJ --
