TheLiveSoundGuy
Do not just pull them off. You will most likely need a good soldering iron, and a heat gun. The back plate should be soldered to the covers. The covers should be sealed in wax. This wax isolates the pickup winding from the covers. It also eliminates a harmonic feedback that occurs between the covers and the windings. There is a thread on the forum somewhere that explains the entire procedure if you really want to do it, just do a search. Many on the board will recommend against doing so though, as damage to the pickup can occur. Best solution would just be to purchase pups without the covers on them. daveinspain
How do you remove pickup covers?Do you just pull them off? Don't do it.... Buy some Gibson, Seymour Duncans or other pick ups that don't have covers.... Some day you may want to put the originals back in unmodified.
