vagabond
Ever just sitting around jamming on a few regular favorites and suddenly find yourself like in a zone and completely digging every sound that's coming out of your amp? Yeah, it's niiiice Amazing what a new set of strings and a fretboard cleaning will do for a guitar.
Bram
I agree. New strings get the best out of a Les Paul! It's addictive.
Thundergod
Yes... it feels really good! So, what were you using when it happened to you? (list the whole setup please!)
vagabond
Yes... it feels really good! So' date=' what were you using when it happened to you? (list the whole setup please!)[/quote'] I, like the super trusting and amazing friend I am, left my pedals at my friend's house so he can see if he can't map the circuitry on them (he's a mechanical engineer student and has been playing guitar since 1st grade, I trust him not to break anything), so it was al naturale today with LP Studio > Hot Rod Deluxe. On the "More Gain" channel with drive at 9:30-10 and master at 8:30 (playing in an apartment), presence at half past noon and reverb at 8 o'clock. Middle and bass were both just past noon (a little more bass than mids), and treble was sitting at 2:30. I plugged into the input 1 slot today (usually I go through input 2). It was pretty simple, not a whole lot of knob fiddling went on, just changed the strings (with proper stretching of course), did a thorough fretboard cleaning (Gibson's Luthier's Choice) while the strings were off, tuned up and started playing. It was a lot of fun, it was like I couldn't play a wrong note. I went through tunes like Purple Haze (because the lead into the solo alone is fun enough to make it worth playing the whole song), a couple White Stripes tunes (Ball and Biscuit is one of my favorite blues jams), and just generally fiddling around with chords and fills. What was nice was that, switching back to the clean channel and turning the reverb up and pressing in the "brite" switch I was able to go through Wind Cries Mary and that nice G drone that was in Arlen Roth's latest video. Again, couldn't play a wrong note if I tried. Just a really good practice session all around.
LPguitarman
Yeah, I get that perfect tone when every string is perfectly in tune and the humidity is at a comfortable level. Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but i have noticed my LP sounds better with good humidity between 40-60.

Bram
I had the most beautiful 'guitar-test day' when I played my Les Paul Standard through the clean channel of a HOT ROD DELUXE! It sounded like a match in heaven, just brilliant. The tone was bright, chimey, lively, tight and thick at the same time. Just crazy. Love the bright switch. rocketman
Well for me it's more about the zone of playing than the zone of tone (hey that's actually a neat name for a band). Some days I can play YYZ perfectly because I'm in the zone and other days I can barely pluck that G string properly (I'm sure AXE® will take it from here so I'll just stop there). 80LPC
the zone of tone (hey that's actually a neat name for a band). Especially in a Jack Black voice...
