standard es3355 vs figured vs 64 reissue

Thank you for reading this,

I had a standard 2021 es335 original sixties but it was really heavy. So, I sold it and I am now looking at a replacement that is hopefully lighter.  The problem for me is getting my hands on them to try.

I like the looks of the figured 335 standard  but appreciate it is the same guitar but better looking.

I also like the look of the 59 reissue and the 64 reissue.

Can anyone tell me if there is a quality/sound difference between the 64 and the standard? I am left handed so where I am in the UK, I can only get cherry red.

Also, I have seen a sunburst 59 reissue for sale. Are the neck on these actually that much bigger than the 64, I have looked at the wildwood guitar site and the sizes seem all over the place there.

I seem to veering towards a reissue but all the ones I've seen red handed have had binding bleed or binding issues.

than you.

Great choice. An ES-335 is an Essential Guitar for Musicians. The Figured bodies can be very good looking…

The biggest thing that will affect their sound is the Pickups.. There are many different Humbuckers & each have their own distinctive sound.. After that the Pots & Caps.. What kind of sound are you wanting? What kind of music do you play?

Well as a development I did today find an ES335 64 re issue to play, alone side a figured standard. It was a three hour drive but worth it.

The figured guitar was very good looking but I decided that that was not the deciding factor for me. I do like the pickups in the new standards, but that has now all changed now I have played a 64 reissue.

My god! The 64 sounded wonderful. I never liked the bridge pickup on any guitar before but the bridge pickup on the 64 was fabulous, and the neck was exactly the sound I had in my head. (I am 62yrs old).

The fit and finish on the 64 was slightly better  but it felt completely different.  Not better but much more comfortable.

However, I was not happy with the binding on the 64 I played. There seem to be some shrinkage where the neck met the body which would have bothered me even though they had the guitar reduced.

I was always happy with my standard, bar the weight, but the 64 re issue ticked all the boxes for me including weight. 7lbs 12 oz.  At least I know what it is I am looking for now. I appreciate they are much more expensive but since this is going to be the last guitar I plan on buying I want what I want.
