Cristo
I've been in contact with Gibson and others to find out what exactly is my Explorer '83, not much help there, I hope someone in this forum knows Explorers better than Gibson!. The description doesn't fit with most descriptions I've read, Gibson told me they think it'a Korina 83, not the Heritage which had a defferent serial #, mine is 8 digit. The color is Ivory I think, hardware is gold, pickups are Dirty Fingers, rosewood fingerboard, 3 knobs on a row. I know for sure that it's not a regular '83 which had the knobs in a triangular pattern and chrome hardware. The pickguard was changed by the way, everything else it's original. I can't find a web site where there's history or in depth chronology about Explorers, any help???
Swmcv2007
I can't help you but I really want to complement you on that guitar. That's the coolest Explorer I've ever seen. Good Luck.
TinFish
I'm afraid I am of no help either. Very nice though!
max2343
It's just a plain 83 Explorer that was white and yellowed nicely. The 84 had a triangular control layout
Cristo
That's the thing, it was never white, you can see it under the pickguard inside the guitar or in the back where the pots are, the color is Ivory which I think was used only on Korinas (besides the natural Korina), plus it has gold hardware instead of chrome like the plain Explorer... yoda
Nice guitar, but with all-due-respect......don't worry about it. I have a simular issue with mine, 92' ebony fretboard, black hardware, locking sperzels, wine red body, black pickguard. no one at gibson seems to know, they say they never offered an ebony fretboard except on the white body and no black hardware on any that year or so they say. So I ended up basically saying oh well I guess I'll never no. :D
max2343
White or Classic white. One is pure white the other is a Cream or Ivory.
Riffster
Gosh it took me a while to stop staring a max' avatar... Like he says Classic White on Gibsons is very Ivory looking, Alpine White is the whitest white. A dead giveaway of whether your guitar is Korina or Mahogany is the weight, Korina is noticeably lighter. You could also look in the pickup routes and see the wood grain.
