ben_sparky
Hi all, just wondering, what is the point of braided wire? Is it a grounding issue or simply to improve quality? And also does anyone know how to properly join two ends together?
hbomb76
To hook braided wire up (which is archaic technologically, yes, but is my favorite to use on my nicer guitars), just push back the "foreskin" (the braided covering) and you will ground it, while connecting the cloth-covered wire inside to your terminal. GuitarJunkie
As far as purpose, it cuts down on noise. The ground wire on the outside creates a "sheild" that protects the signal on the inner wire from electrical interference.
