Brendan
Hi All, I am looking for an original Gibson acoustic bridge. I have an original 1999 Gibson round shoulder in pieces. This thing was never put together or finished in any way and I want to get it as original as possible. Can anyone help??? Thanks
jchabalk
sweet - that sounds like a great project! i don't know if you'll a lot of luck tracking one down - but i had to have an old hummingbird fully overhauled a few years ago, part of it was a bridge replacement and the guys put a new one on and it looks completely stock (i've got the old busted one and can compare them side by side). If you can't find an original you may have some luck with making one or having one made.
Brendan
Cool, Thanks!.. I have tried emailing Gibson but they are not the best at responding to emails.. One would think luthiers could buy parts from them otherwise how would Gibson Acoustics ever be repaired?? Is your old Hummingbird one with the reverse (Belly Up) bridge? or with the regular bridge. Allparts have a 'Belly Up' replacement bridge but it doesnt have the MOP inlay at each end of the row of pegholes and isnt the best lookin thing around, not something you would want to put on a Gibson. jchabalk
Mine's the "normal" belly down. The previous owner had abused the guitar quite a bit so it was a bit of a wreck. I think in the end they cleated about 14 cracks. The bridge had been shaved down most of the way to try and account for a badly needed neck reset so it had to be replaced.. I'm pretty sure that when replacement parts are required they try like h3ll to get the guitar sent back to bozeman/nashville for repairs. i may be wrong about that though. Brendan
Hmmm... Long way 4 me to send it..lol. I have a 70's dove bridge which I may just have to make do with. Im waiting for a luthier to be available to do it but he is taking his time.. As you can probably tell im starting to get a little impatient I hope I dont decide to glue the sucker together myself and shag the whole thing up!!
