Repair or buy a new ipod

I have a 4th generation iPod that won't charge. Is it worth getting repaired? Has anyone sent their iPod to a third-party to get fixed. Or should i just forget about it and buy a new one?
Hmmm, if its a battery problem thats very fixable. Will the iPod work when its actually plugged in to power? Like in a dock? If so then it probably just needs a new battery. Do you use it alot?

Nothing. Plug it in--not a peep. Looks like the charging jack might be messed up (dropped a few times). I am thinking it may need a new board.

I've repaired several for myself and friends. If it's not working even while plugged in, then I'd say you're probably right about something on the motherboard being messed up. The only way you can make it cost effective to repair is to do it yourself by buying parts from e-bay. Most will come with directions of some sort, and it's really not that complicated if you take your time and use proper tools. By the time you're done, you'll probably have paid about half the cost of a new iPod, though. If it were me, I'd just drop a few more bills on a new one. The 4G's were a lot more hardy than the 5 and 5.5g models, but the new "classic" models can't be beat. I lost count of how many time's i've dropped mine from chest height trying to put it in my pocket (I have 10 thumbs - it's a wonder I can play guitar at all) and the sucker keeps on truckin'. That, and the added capacity and video capability make plane rides and waiting rooms a lot more bearable.
