StrumminAway
Howdy fellow Gibson players! On the top of headstock of my semi-hollow Gibson, there’s a u-shaped mark that you can see if light reflects onto it. It’s from the spot where I had my headstock tuner on for a couple days and it’s frustrating because I can’t make it disappear. I was just playing it acoustically for a couple days without plugging it in. There’s no indentations or discolouration though. Does anyone please have any suggestions of how I can get rid of the marking? I tried to buff it out but it’s still there. The paint isn’t chipped or anything but I can’t figure out how to fix this Thank you!
Eracer_Team
obviously don't leave tuners attached to your guitar.. it effects the nitro. tune it take it off. a repair center can use more nitro lacquer to smooth it out.. as it will blend. if you try buff it out. you will only take away the nitro that's there. also don't use mosquito spray if you plan to play outdoors.. you won't like it's result either. StrumminAway
Yeah I gathered that much regarding that response about not using a headstock tuner longer than needed (obviously). I didn’t leave it on the whole two days, just on and off…but never again. I’ll make sure not to put a capo there either. Thanks for the advice tho. Mosquito spray is a must. PrairieDog
Seriously, if you have to use spray, make sure nothing it is on is touching your guitar, meaning long sleeve shirt, shorts or pants for the guitar to rest on if you play sitting down and wipe it down immediately, like as you set it on the stand quick. The spray will start eating into your nitro the minute it contacts it. And don’t let anyone spray the stuff anywhere near your guitar. The over spray will settle on it and go to work. Otherwise, don’t bother fixing the headstock, the rest of the guitar will come around to match shortly. Just fyi, I find those Off clip on fans work well. We also wear Buzz Off clothing up here in the northwoods, but I’m not sure if that is nitro safe. Might be easier to just pick up a poly finished guitar for outdoor gigs, and leave the good stuff at home. StrumminAway
Thanks for your help guys. I’m way over the top on my care with my guitar and baby it haha. And I don’t take this guitar for gigging anyway. It’s strictly my at-home guitar. As for mosquito spray, I wouldn’t dare put any lotion or anything on my arms especially any spray that would damage the finish. I just meant in the summer out here we use deet free spray but I don’t spray any indoors. Thanks again guys and happy pickin.
Willsjazz
Every time I see someone playing with a tuner or capo attached to a headstock I cringe.
