VillageIdiotUsingShampoo
Hi, i recently purchased a Les Paul vintage mahogany studio and a few days ago i noticed the screw of the straplock were sitting all loose so i screwed it back and went to band rehearsal. Suddenly when standing up playing the screw just falls off and i nearly dropped my les paul (catched it in the last sec) and when i screwed it back in it just falls of again. If i would put glue in that screw hole and then put back the screw, would it work? Would it somehow damage the wood, would i be able to remove the screw later if i would like to attach these straplocks (such as the ones on the 2008 standard) and if so - what glue should i use? Best Regards and hoping for an answer /john :D
Tim Plains
If you use glue than no, the screw won't ever come out. That's the whole point of using glue. Have a look at Schaller's strap locks, they work great. The only thing is the provided screws may be too small for the hole. A lot of people just use the toothpick trick and never have an issue - that's where you place a few toothpicks into the hole (no glue) to fill the void. I originally used the toothpick trick and placed Shaller's on all my guitars. Then a luthier told me that was a bad idea (I'm sure many here that have tried it would disagree) because the toothpicks will eventually compress and the screw will just come out. I did what he recommeded...and that was to use pieces of hard wood and glue them in place, then also glue the screw in; so, that's what I've done. The screws will never come out. GuitarGuy503
This happened with my old Washburn electric. Break up a toothpick, shove the toothpick pieces in the screwhole, and screw the strap button back on. If you use enough toothpick there will be no need for any glue. The more tooth pick you use the more the screw will have to grab onto thus not making glue necessary.

Tim Plains
No, Freddy's Frets, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. www.freddysfrets.com Two people who don't know each other told me he's the best in S. Ontario; so, I gave him a shot. Top class person to deal with, I must say.
Silverbursted
If the screw hole is wallowed out, you may need to glue some wood in as well. A couple of flat toothpicks should do the trick.
BlackHawk233
Mine were stiff, but first purchase after my Gibson were dunlop strap locks, The screw for them is slightly larger so they fit VERY snug in the original holes.
