SteveFord
It was a toss up, beat up Gibson Theodore or 2016 Triumph Thruxton R plus save a lot of money. I'm not sure if I made the right choice or not but I went with the Thruxton. It came with higher clip ons which I put on last night. They don't look quite as racy but it sure made the bike comfortable. Other than just regular maintenance stuff, the big upgrade will be to lose the catalytic converter and go with a pair of slightly louder mufflers. 1 1
tx-ogre
Nice. Thinking back to my riding days, I remember the old saying among bikers: “Loud Pipes Save Lives.” Well done.
IanHenry
Very nice bike, enjoy 🙂
Ceptorman
Nice bike, can I ride it? Triumph getting sporty with Brembo and Ohlins. Are the higher clipons already installed in that photo? I don't see how they can be any lower. The best thing about a new exhaust will be the weight savings. Will it need a new tune after that? I moved to south Texas 3 years ago. I don't ride much down here, and I have an awesome Honda just sitting in the garage. I don't know what's worse around here, the roads or the drivers! SteveFord
Thank you, gentlemen. Higher clip ons are in the bottom photo. I believe the ECU has enough flexibility to cope with everything BUT a camshaft change. I'm not going to get that carried away as right now it's pleasant at slow speeds but also goes like hell when you give it the gas. I don't need more power than what it currently has. There's really nice roads here filled with either people going 27 MPH on their way to Wal-Mart or 93 MPH on your side of the road. There's no telling what you're going to encounter. sparquelito
I like the higher bars myself. Many years ago, I had the local powersports shop order me a Suzuki SV-650. It came in, I test-drove it, and promptly rejected it. Humping the tank and having all my weight on my wrists on the lowers (unless I'm doing 110 mph) just isn't comfortable. I ended up buying a brand new Kawasaki KLR650, that very day! In a similar vein, I did a special adjustable gooseneck mod to my mountain bike a few months ago, to get the bars up into a more ergonomically-pleasant riding position.
merciful-evans
Great choice. Better looking than a Theodore too.
Sgt. Pepper
If it was reliced by the master or painted by some artist I’ve never heard of it would have been the right choice. How are you going to hang a motorcycle on your wall to impress your cronies?

You remove the silencer & rev the t#ts of it to impress your neighbours down the other end of the road

An SV650 is a great base for a racebike, probably one of the most popular bikes at a racetrack.

SteveFord
They move right along, you'd better have your helmet fastened when you nail the throttle. One guy changed the camshaft and exhaust, had it remapped, added a fairing, changed the gearing and set a land speed record at Bonneville with it. I wanted something that would be fun to ride but wouldn't drive me crazy when I got stuck behind some slow moving cars. It's civilized enough where you can just downshift and poke along instead of coasting with the clutch in, cursing in your helmet. What I wasn't expecting is that it's really comfortable, I could add some luggage and go touring on it. Ahh, the reliced Theodore, that really an impression on me. I would have guessed a street value of $120, not $16,000 or whatever it was.
