Guitar Help!!

I'm planning to get my first bass, as well as my second guitar (and maybe third) as soon as I make enough money but first I'm in need of big help. This is all Canada by the way.

I was looking at

Fender Classic Series '70s Jazz - 4 String bass - $979.00 (Can be negotiated, I wasn't gonna spend over 800 on a bass, but this guitar looks too sick)

Gibson Robot Les Paul Wine Red - $2525.00

Picture - I'm probably not gonna get the gold hardware though.

I'm also not too sure about this either, since the computer parts look very fragile and the repair costs will probably hit over the roof is it breaks..

OR

Gibson Les Paul Standard - Cherry or Honey Sunburst - $2875.00

Now here is my dilemma:

Should I get EPIPHONE Les Paul Standard/Traditional Plus - Around 600~900 Dollars (Not too sure), instead AND get a Fender American Standard (this can be negotiated too, I might get an ESP instead for a cheaper price.)FenderStratSunburst95NOS.jpg

I heard that Epiphones and Gibsons don't vary TOO much on quality. I just heard that Epiphones carry the Les Paul sound, but just as not as good, and it goes out of tune more, but when you think about it, it is still 3~5 times CHEAPER, and getting a Fender Strat is still around $1500, which is STILL cheaper than getting a Gibson...

I'm going to my friend's house this week and playing his Fender Precision Bass, but I've heard the sound of those basses and it is really perfect for me (if not everybody..).

I've always wanted a Les Paul, but I went for an Ibanez RG 350 EX (I don't regret the purchase ONE bit), so I'm taking this chance to try and get one.

I want some of your opinions, from guitar gurus to just passerby's looking for eye candy.

As a final question, in Canadian money, what good guitar amp can I get for less than $1000? Preferably Marshall.

As for the bass, I'll most likely be getting a Fender Rumble 60, unless anyone has tried something better for lower prices...

I've been playing guitar for around three years now, I'm not professional or anything, so any help would be appreciated.

And if anyone is asking me WHY I'm going for a bass guitar, it's because a lot of people I played guitar with (friends, teachers), recommended bass guitar for me since "my finger speed goes to waste". I can pick MUCH faster with my fingers than my pick @_@;;

My budget? No more than $4500, but I'd like to keep it low as well (That's why I'm trying to take the Epiphone alternative). And don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna buy this STRAIGHT out on the same day, it will be gradual over the months.

And just to clear things up, I want to play Bass because it looks SO much fun, not just cause my fingers are fast...

OK, let's take this one thing at a time. What guitar do you have right now? Do you really need a second one? You're on the Gibson forum so most people will tell you to get a Gibson. But there is a lot more to think about here. Do you want to purchase something that you'll want to keep as your main guitar for a very long time or is this a passing thing? Have you played all the guitars you mentioned here? If not, play them all...a lot (get yourself to a music store and play each one for at least half an hour with different amps and tone settings). See which one is calling to you. More expensive isn't necessarily better for everyone (my Sonex is an order of magnitude cheaper than my Les Pauls, but I love that darn thing).

Do the same with a bass. I have a cheap Squire bass and it actually doesn't sound too bad. I'll probably replace the pickups on it, but that's good enough for me. Also, you may want to think about the used market, but we'll get to that later.

If I buy a Gibson, it'll probably go until it's SO tattered that even repairs won't do. But I have a feeling that I won't cherish a Fender or Epiphone AS much as a Gibson (price being ONE of the factors). This will most likely end up being my MAIN guitar, as well as the Bass.

I won't be picking favorites nor will I intentionally play one more than the other, so I want a pretty good bass as well. I'm going to a local guitar shop this week hopefully and will be testing some out.

A Strat and Les Paul are two very different sounding guitars. Both are fine instruments. Give them both a try and tell us about your experience with them...
