My father's 1941 J-35 & 1937 L-00 guitars

Recommended Posts

My brother and I have inherited two great Gibson guitars from my father's estate. We both are players as well as was my father, his uncles and my grandfather. We grew up listening to and playing old-time country, folk and American Appalachian folk music of eastern Ohio and Western West Virginia. We all have had many different and even unusual guitars over the years. These two Gibsons were among Dad's treasured possessions, along with a 1946 Martin D-28 and a Custom Martin D-45 he had made. My brother has the J-35 and D-28, while I have the L-00 and the D-45. I thought it would be nice to share comments about these guitars with other musicians and collectors. The J-35 may be quite scarce since it has the red pencil batch number following the serial number, placing it as one of the first J-35's made after we entered WWII in December of 1941.
