Cris
Hi everyone! I bought a 2023 Gibson Custom Shop 1961 VOS sold by an online store as new. When it arrived I noticed some rust on the stopbar pins. I immediately wrote to the store's customer service and they replied like this: "The guitars are VOS, or Vintage Old Specs, that is, built as they were in 1961, even with the materials. The rust is therefore normal and, as I said, it will come back anyway.". I was very surprised and felt fooled given the price of the guitar. What do you think? motorcitychick
I have a few VOS Gibson Custom Shop guitars and they have the patina, but no rust.
merciful-evans
Not heard of this rust thing before. Its common to experience buyers remorse when spending a bunch of money on a guitar. People ask this nature of question all the time. It doesn't matter what we think. If you are not entirely happy with the guitar then return it. PS bridge pins are steel? as in red rust? I imagine they are, because alli rust generally looks white.
Eracer_Team
quick google on " Les Paul VOS rusty screws" and one can find posts on VOS has dulled the finish of the guitar and some have reported rusty bridges and screws. think of it as a poor man's Murphy aged without Murphy's heavier price tag. Sgt. Pepper
6 hours ago, Cris said: I'm attaching some images so you can tell me what you think. Looks like k rap QA. It’s their way of using old unusable stock and it gives them an excuse to use the rusty parts. And instead of rust it’s given a fancy name antiquer’s name - Patina. It’s like when do you know your Tom Murphy guitar is supposed to be that way or its bad QA. Edited September 11 by Sgt. Pepper
duane v
Here's a new 61 VOS at an online store that is proudly pictured with rust. I think VOS means some limited aging. I've purchased a Gibson VOS CS Les Paul Custom with the same type of oxidation on the hardware, and it doesn't bother me at all....... But that's me
'Scales
‘61 was a particularly sweaty year for guitarist’s hands.
