mberichon
Just joined and thought you all might enjoy these pics of my 1988 Les Paul Std. 'Wyno' on stage with THE MAN Hubert Sumlin and 'Hurricane' Jerry' Loos at our Blues For A Cure concert in Columbus, Ohio last December. Hubert will be back this year! www.myspace.com/bluesforacure So, here is the story... In 2007 summer, I jumped in to help my friend Sean Carney (2007 IBC and Albert King Award Winner) develop a concept we ended up calling 'Blues For A Cure'. Our mission is primarily to raise money for cancer research. I had recently lost my sister to breast cancer and Sean's Mom was fighting the fight, still is. Our secondary mission is 'Keeping the Blues Alive!". So, we put on our first BFAC show in December 2007, which featured mostly the top Ohio and regional talent. Great show and we raised over $10,000 for the cause. We also produced 2 CD's that year. One straight up blues and the other blues Christmas music. the show and the casue really caaught on, and in December 2008 we put on a show that featured the best young blues talent, international contemporary stars and...legends. Our 2008 Lineup: 1) Local BLues legends Delta Sheiks, 2) 2008 IBC challengeres and local blues band PAtrick McGlaughlin, 3) From Detroit 94 year old legend Alberta Adams with RJ's ERythm Rockers, 4) From Chicago Dave PSecter and the Bluebirds with Omar Coleman on harp, 5) Howlin Wolff review with Henry Gray on piano and Hubert Sumlin...Hubert continued with the Sean cArney Band and Houston's great blues player Jonn Richardson 6) 2008 IBC winner from Kansas City - Trampled Under Foot closed the show. I MC's the affair... I had met Hubert a couple times prior to the show. Worked the stage for him at a couple shows. We became friends. He is a cancer survivor, couple boughts. The last one nearly killed him, but he fought it off. He wanted to come to Columbus and help us out and play our show. Over dinner with Hubert and Henry Friday night prior to the show, Hubert talked about having to bring his strat becasue the Les PAul was just too hard to travel with...the rest is history and you see the pictures below. He played through my 1964 Super Reverb and signed the chassis. 2 priceless pieces in my studio. Les Paul's named Wyno. That's th estory
