Would some of you more knowledgeable gentlemen be kind enough to take a look at the above ling to my guitar and tell me what you think she might be (unusual bridge and color) and opine upon what model/series she might be? Serial Number does not check out as a "Custom Shop"...I'd be most appreciate to the info. Thanks one and all!

Well, the original owner went through the trouble to put EMG active pickups on.

Maybe the bridge was an aftermarket item as well? The saddle looks like it's

tilted forward more at the treble side... or visa versa.

Does the paint job on the body top look original?

Yes, it was discussed in a brief auction thread before I acquired it.

Paint appears to be original.

Serial Number Checks out to be Nashville Plant, 44th insturment on Dec. 3, 1982. Everything other than EMGs is orig. as far as I can tell...even the little flip out tuners.

To post and image click on the sixth icon.

You'll see this appear : [ img ][ / img ]

Put the url of the image in between [ img ][ / img ]. Specifically between ] [

Don't change the tags, I did so you could see an example. There should be no spaces

inside [].

Also, you will need to upload them to a sight that will convert it to a usable file. I had exactly the same question a month ago. Photobucket.com was recommended because it is free.

The process is:

register - username and password

upload pics

select IMG option (last one in the row of four) it will be copied to your clipboard

open up a reply on the forum you want to respond to

paste (the IMG brackets will automatically properly be inserted)

select post

and your in business

the only part i dont get, and didnt get when you posted it before buying it, is the bridge... it isn original and it seems a little out of place if you look at the saddles (on the 6th string side). Also the stop tail looks kind of small, maybe it is because of the different bridge? Oh, and the switchplate is missing... i say its missing because (at least in the pic) you can note a round imperfection in the paintjob, so my guess is it did have a swithcplate at some point. Pickguard is kissing too.

Oh, and the screws holding the pickup rings are not the ones gibson uses, of course all of that could have just been "upgraded" by the original owner... i cant beggin to guess why

Another 82 LP in red:

The same tunning pegs' date=' the same color... now we can see which parts ate original and which are not.

$565 is the current bid...ouch! You'd hope an old custom would sell for more...even with the wear.

  • 1 month later...

Well...I've had it for a little while now and I LOVE IT! It does weight a ton...got to be over 10LBS. I was aware of the modifications, etc before buying it, although I didn't post until I had purchased it.

To make a long story short...tried it at a local Music Go Round in Colorado then it got bought by someone in Maryland who immediately posted it for sale for a profit on eBay...then I bought it at the mark up that person had set for it...after 19 years...I finally found a Gibson Les Paul that I couldn't pass up!

Thanks for the comments, info on the parts and for posting your "beauties". Always enjoy the "Guitar Porn"! =D>

*** BY THE WAY...BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE "1987 GIBSON FLYING V" POST THAT I MADE TODAY IN THE "V" SECTION OF THE FORUM TO SEE MY $349.99 SCORE!
