mandolin banjo jr

Recommended Posts

I have a 1924 mandolin banjo jr that I am trying to restore to something resembling original condition. I have all the pieces, original case, and the head is ok. The problem is the original finish was removed sometime years ago and it was painted (or something). I can tell that is used to black but I cannot tell from internet pictures if they were glossy or flat. Anybody have one??

I would check with Greg Earnest, he is very helpful and a nice guy. This is his web site http://www.earnestbanjo.com/

Also try the Collector's Corner forum section at the Banjo Hangout http://www.banjohangout.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=17

Not to take away from this great web site here. But if you don't have any luck those resources might come through.

Hey Mike,

We have a wonderful restoration department here at Gibson in Nashville if you need that kind of help.

As far as the finish is concerned, it's probably varnish. I make a really good varnish cleaner/polish we sell here at the Gibson Showcase. 615 514 2200 ex.3 Good luck.
