Gibson starts to show hope!

I planned on hitting a few stores this weekend. Are these prices supposed to magically change or will the stores still be selling their stock at the $1649 price? I have a feeling the managers won't have a clue when I mention it.

Just back from GC where I put a deposit on a new Black SG Standard for the new price of $1199

I'll pick her up next month. The Guitar plays and sounded awesome.

The managers had no clue about the new price. After showing them the Gisbon website and then Sweetwater where the new price is listed they wrote me up. I'm not sure if this is a temporary sale price or this is the new price from here on.

I don't see how anyone is gonna pick up one of the new Raw power Guitars when the Standards are just a bit more now.

Great Guitar and a great price. Gibson made a smart move.

In store pics from my iPhone, Next month she's mine.

Hey nice SG. But I have a somewhat unrelated question. How do you post pictures from your iphone? I have an iPhone and don't know how to post pics. Do you need to put it on your computer and do it from there?

Sorry to ask a tech question on a guitar forum.

At this price I think I'm gonna get another SG and mod it in all the ways I'm too afraid to do on my precious first real guitar.

Definitely a bit more reasonable considering the bang-for-the-buck factor. Now they need to drop the other models a bit as well.

And while we're at it, where are those Maestro options and better finishes/beveling on the USA stuff? ;)

Baby steps, I know. :)

No tricks. I sent the pics to my email and then posted from my PC

I have not seen the new price anywhere other than Gibsons site...

Sweetwater has the new price posted.

Gibson SG Standard $1199

I bet GC will make the updates in the next few days.

you know these new prices are great, but at the same it's like wtf? are they cheaping out somewhere? sh1t wood? asian electronics? what's the catch?? i'm all for the price drop, but at the same time, it ruins resale for someone that bought an SG in say the last 2-3 years, or ever more so someone that bought an SG a couple months ago... all of a sudden their SG is worth close to a 1/3rd less... seems very drastic... too good to be true... something is fishy indeed... i'm wondering if the circuit board electronics that started showing up in '09 models is something outsourced overseas... what's next? philippino mahogany? cheap non-nickel frets? asian humbuckers?

still pricey probably because they have yet to get rid of their back inventory which they bought at the old price' date=' give em' a week or 2[/quote']

still pricey? are you on crack? perhaps you'd be better served with an epiphone... you get what you pay for...

Hey hey dude, no need to get up on his case. Yeah they dropped in price which is GREAT news, but there is no denying that 1200 krones is still a VERY large chunk of change. I dont think he really meant the price to quality, I ASSUME he meant price in general. Its like saying a $32000 car is cut to $18000, yeah its an absolutly AMAZING deal (Depending on the car) but its still pricey for those of us that are on a limited budget.

And what is wrong with Epiphone? Yeah they arnt as good quality as a gibson, but they are still very reliable and great instruments. No need to use it as an insult to someone who cant drop over 1k on a guitar every time a new one comes out. I dont mean to tear you apart, but dude, that comment sounded INCREDIBLY immature.

Sure they are cheaper now, but you know they are cheaping out SOMEWHERE. I think the PCB board thing was just a sign of things to come... I'm so glad I found a nice 2004 after I returned 2 of those SG Standards from '09. The quality was terrible, and they both had issues I could not live with. Oh, and they were ORANGE!!!! agh!!!!

Yes it sucks when you paid 1500+ for an SG and it's now $1200

If you have any negation skills at all you got 10% off that and

if you can really talk and have a good history with the store

you can haggle up to 20% off. That has always been the case with me and GC.

So IMO you could walk away with a new Standard SG for $1250-$1300 +tax

Before the decrease. Now it's $1200 not that much less.

Being someone who just purchased an 09 for the new price of $1199

I'd like to see some proof that Gibson cheaped out somewhere. People say these

things with zero facts. 0.0(Insert Stern show sound effect)

The SG Standard I bought was $1549 at GC just 2 days ago.

Were the parts on this SG the good parts then and now that the guitar cost less

the parts turned cheapo? Ummm no.

Fender increased prices on all models, understandably people *****ed and moaned.

I bet most were not even on the market to buy a new Fender Guitar they just jump on the

band wagon. And those that bought before the increase... myself included, made out a bit.

Gibson lowers prices in a horrible economy on 2 models and people complain?

Just goes to show you, you can't please everyone.

My guess is Gibson has thought this out, I’m pretty sure they know a thing or two about selling guitars. Maybe they are targeting consumers considering a Strat or Tele that is now 30% more than it was 45 days ago. Anyone who was thinking about an SG can now pull the trigger.

It's a very good strategic business decision. I would not be surprised to see more discounts Coming from Gibson once the sales numbers start coming in for the SG’s.

I expect to see Fender react in the coming months.
