controlthebleeding
I've been on this forum for a few months, and while it's been great reading i haven't had really any need for possible help till now. I know all of you can help me in some way, so here it goes. I have a SG faded and recently started modding it out.. Mainly because i wanted something with a bit more tone. Now i just replaced the pups with Burstbuckers and can tell a big difference. you can hear every freakin' note now. it's quite nice. Now I plan to swap out the actual tuners. Unfortunately i don't know what exactly to get. I hear Grovers are nice and keep great tune. But which ones do i get? i'd really like to get some that compare to the vintage tuners i have now, but i'm not sure how well the grover vintage tuners keep tune or even if they fit. Maybe even the rotomatics or another brand in general. I know i should probably measure them, but i would rather ask before if there's even a chance that they would fit or not. so i don't waste my time, taking everything apart only to figure out i can't even put them on.. Thanks in advance, mike
Twiz
Are you having problems keeping your guitar in tune now? It might just be a problem with the strings getting stuck in the nut. That can be fixed by putting a small amount of graphite in the slots where the strings go. You may also want to consider getting a set up done on the guitar. The tuners that are on your SG Special aren't bad, but if you don't like 'em I say change them. One thing you'll want to keep in mind is you may need to drill some tiny new holes to accommodate the mounting screws for the new tuners. -That's something you should let a pro do. I think Grover makes a set of tuners that will fit on a Gibson without any new mounting holes needed. I hope this helps.
ninety1vee
if in case you do need new tuners, go with schallers or gotohs
heymisterk
I put on new vintage-style Grovers and like them a great deal. They fit right into the existing holes; no new drilling required. Good luck.
Alfa Corse
Gibson Deluxe tuners are Grover Deluxe and my SG stays in tune :- Check screws and nuts on your tuners.
gnolivos
So, the original GIBSON DELUXE tuners are the same as the GROVER DELUXE? Funny... I was asking on another thread/forum, and they told me to upgrade from the oem tuners to the grover deluxe. ha!
Franz
Yeah the grover deluxe will fit i swap the old tuners cause i broke one when my guitar fell down. But the real reason i bought the grover instead of the gibson pmmh 10 was they where half the price.
Corrosion of conformity
If you really find it neccessary to replace your tuners, I would go with some kind of Grover
