djroge1
I received the latest issue of guitar player magazine yesterday and there was an advert for Collings Guitars - I35 It looks nice but I've never played one or even seen one in a store. Have any of you tried one of these yet? If so what do you think of them? They're made in Austin Tx.
deepblue
I hear they are pretty nice guitars. They have a model that looks very similar to a Lester. Im surprised Gibson isnt going after them like they did with PRS.
RichCI
A friend of mine has a Collings acoustic I've played and it's a real beauty - plays, sounds and looks GREAT. Lots of attention to detail.
Jayla
I've got a Collings acoustic (an OM) and my next guitar will probably be a Collings, another acoustic (probably a CJ). I've played pretty much all of the acoustic models they make. Generally speaking, they are extraordinarily well-made guitars whose fit and finish are second to none. More importantly, they sound and play beautifully. I've tried the I-35, but haven't played electric in so long that it just felt like a foreign instrument to me -- sorry to not be more helpful on that account. Like their acoustics, it was a beautiful, well-made guitar. More like a 339 than a 335 in size. My best recommendation would be to go out and play one, or better yet several, A/Bing them with other electrics to see how they compare. This is what I did before buying the OM, which blew away all the other small bodies I tried. FYI here's Collings' website.
guitar_randy
I've seen a few you tube videos of a guy jamming on one. Before that I have never heard of them. They appear to be well made, nice sounding ,and quality crafted guitar.I am betting they are expensive though as well. Jayla
Forgot to add a link to the Collings electric forum. Why not go there and read up a bit? guitar_randy -- like you, I had never even heard of Collings before playing the one I eventually bought. And you're right: they are expensive!
