Mr.Kite
Hello m8s. Im new on the forum and I FINALLY got enough money to buy a new wife. Im really interested about 58 Les Paul V.O.S . I just found this here http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/gibson/historic_les_paul/89155/89155.php Now the first thing that draw my attention was weight. 8.55?! Anyway I live in Finland so I cant go to check out these guitars in the shop. So do you think its safe to order that guitar from Wildwood without actually testing it? And it says on the site: "Free Shipping When You Order Online" . Does this mean free shipping to europe too? Thank you!

MikeRom
Hi and welcome. It does seem a little light but it does also states - Solid Non-Weight Relieved Mahogany Back. Maybe it's just a light piece of wood. Great top on it too. Love the plain tops I trust Wildwood, almost got a guitar from them but got a better deal locally. Good reputation. I seriously doubt that they will ship over seas for free tho. Can't hurt to ask -
BigKahune
I purchased a Gibson SG from Wildwood. No problems. The nice thing about Wildwood: they post photos of each guitar in stock - so your looking at pictures of the individual guitar you will be shipped instead of a picture of one that came off the line looking perfect and instead getting shipped something from the warehouse stock. Shipping to Europe - they've got this ominous message: Please call (303) 665-7733 for international shipping rates. ** I'm sure you could email to save phone charges. Nice looking guitar. Good luck. BIGBENDS
Good choice. The R8 link you posted is quite a guitar. Good boys at Wildwood. I bought a guitar from them once and I had no complaints. Love the photos of each individual guitar. Talk about GAS!

RJLII
I've not ordered from Wildwood, but I recently purchased an R8 and it's lighter than my ES335. The sound is great. Note: these have the huge 1958 neck profile. I love it personally, but some are put off by it.

I'm going to test it day after tomorrow I have long fingers so I think that it wont be a problem, we'll see. And I dont like my Ibanez neck at all. FennRx
you will get a better price from saul. he gives accurate tone reports and provides great customer service.
Tim Plains
Very nice! 8.5 lbs is light for an R8. Just a suggestion...what about eBay? Stick only with power sellers and not the guy with 0 feedback, of course. You should find a few that ship worldwide and prices on eBay are usually pretty good. Much better than Canadian prices, that's for sure!
The Mick
Eye used to live down the street from them. The owner is a great guy known him for years love doing business with him. He goes to the factory and hand pick his top line guitars in person. You can trust them.

bostonpaul03
Mr. Kite: i have done business with all three; and in my experience, you'll be satisfied with any one of them. I bought a Ric12 from Wildwood because I wanted that particular one. It arrived perfect and simply needed tuning. Many years back, while speaking with Saul about a different matter, I let slip that I needed a Firebird. He asked me if I wanted one sight unseen, sent from Gibson directly to me? ( I was a dealer then ) I said yes, and that's what we did. Saul never saw the Firebird and I got it for a few hundred bucks cheaper than anyone in the country. Problems? One, I filed the nut slot a teeny teeny bit. I have only corresponded with Mark's guitars, but will be doing business with him soon. In short ( ha! ) if you can do a little work on your guitars, don't be afraid to do business with Reputable Dealers.
Mr.Kite
'so saul is with Centre city music? I didnt get much out from the web page. Marks guitar loft looked pretty good too. especially with prices! And yes perhaps its wise to explore ebay too ! The reason why I interested with Wildwood was the very good rep! They are pretty expensive though. I would get a similar guitar in finland for maybe 300 $ less. But the quality is the main thing of course. And this guitar is intended to last very long! Im not the kind of guy who likes to change his wifes all the time
Mr.Kite
There are few options. http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-CUSTOM-SHOP-1958-HISTORIC-58-GLOSS_W0QQitemZ270390387991QQihZ017QQcategoryZ47072QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem this sounds pretty decent also if I'm gonna buy from Wildwood, this is just as good as the tobacco http://wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/gibson/historic_les_paul/89217/89217.php . Kind of depending on which color I prefer ( hard decision). In Mark's Guitar Loft there is that one 09 58 iced tea for $2975 Man I'm going insane

Mr.Kite
Okay a new shipment is coming on monday I think to centre city. Weights 9.2-9.4 lbs . I forgot to ask the price but I will now. And I just tested some r8:s in store and they were rocking! I never thought that so big neck could feel so good after my Ibanez neck. r7 was cool too but I think I'll order the r8. Not completely sure where though. Is 9.4 heavy ? Like when your playing 2h gig. Has there been any problems? P.S sorry about the mistakes! P.S 2 Bad news are that when I'll order a guitar from U.S , the taxes are something like 25% :)
Pink_Floyd
Why not look toward a UK dealer? There are a good few R8's in stock and I am sure you could easily get a deal on one and would taxes not be a lot cheaper, if any? I think Flight was in Gak and was offered an R8 for less than £2000 but don't quote me on it. Flight??
Bradmeister
Is 9.4 heavy ? Like when your playing 2h gig. Has there been any problems? I have played several long gigs with my R8. Not sure of the exact weight, but probably in the 9 lb. range. Truly, it is one of the best feeling guitars I've ever played, and, surprisingly doesn't feel all that heavy at the end of the gig. I've had back pains from much lighter guitars (I've got a hollow-body) because of the way they "fit." I just played a gig that was 3 hours straight (no breaks) without a problem. We've had several 4-4.5 hour gigs (with breaks) that work out just fine. I'm tired as hell at the end of the night sometimes, and the weight of the guitar could be contributing there, but never any back pain like some folks report. (I don't really have a history of back issues, either, so those with back problems might not want a Les Paul on for those kind of times.) -Brad
FennRx
most Historics fall into the 9lb range +/- a few ounces. Are Nine has a remarkably light R9- 8.2 lbs IIRC
