New to forum, new Les Paul

Greetings friends (no, I'm not really Jeff Beck),

Just wanted to say hello to you fine folks now that I'm finally a member of the Les Paul family.

I recently purchased a Gold Top Les Paul 1960 Classic, the one with yellow/green inlays (not exactly my favorite), and the open coil pickups 496R/500T ceramic magnet hummers.

I really intended on purchasing something a little more "top shelf", but this guitar blew me away with it's playability, looks and tone, plus the price was right (1,600.00 new). I had intended on paying about twice that but I couldn't really justify it with way this baby was singing while playing in the store (I demoed it on a Bogner Alchemist). So I used the extra cash I had leftover and purchased a new Mesa/Boogie Express 5:25 as well...life is good.

I've been a F****r playing for years (being a HUGE Jeff Beck fan), but I also play a lot of Rush, Old Genesis (Steve Hacket), old King Crimson (Greg Lake era). So I've obviously needed a Les Paul for years and now I have one...I'm a happy man.

Respectfully,

Mark (my real name)

~BTW, check out the Jeff Beck DVD: "Live at Ronnie Scott's", you'll be amazed I promise.

Welcome to the forums.

From your taste I suspect you'll find a lot of friends in this place. Ther are MANY Beck-lovers here!

This guitar blew me away with it's playability' date=' looks and tone.[/quote']

These are the only aspects to consider when choosing an instrument. Price is (almost) immaterial.

(BTW; Beck's treatment of the Ray Charles standard "Drown in My Own Tears" as performed with Jools Holland [Jools Holland and Friends Vol II] is probably the most outrageous piece of vituosity I've ever heard....There's a live version on youtube but it's crap in comparison).

Best wishes.
