Swmcv2007
Its impossible. Nothing can compete tone-wise with the Rickenbacker 4001. I have a 4003 with the pickups from a vintage 4001 and its the holy grail of basses.

SaiNight
u guys are right rickenbackers, fenders, B.C Rich Basses are all very good!!! but look at the price of em! Fenders and Rickenbackers are around $2000!!! u can buy a motorcycle with that money (a very bad motercycle but a motorcycle none the less!) and b.c rich's arnt all that reliable unless u go to a guitar shop and try it out for itself... and thats why i post this on the gibson page, cause this is a very reliable brand that can make good bass guitars for a very reasonable price. eldiablo
Personally I really like Fender MIA basses( Jazz and P ) Musicman (Stingrays) Basses are really sweet too, Lakelands are also excellent Basses. Gibson just doesnt have the reputation for Basses as some of the other guys. I've heard plenty of quality issues with T-Birds too but maybe Gibson has gotten better. I was at GC today and they have blow out deals on Fender MIA Deluxe Jazz and P Basses... Just $1200 That's a great deal as these Basses are $1800 plus now. I'd consider a T-bird as a 2nd or 3rd Bass but not as my number one. For me it's Fender for Basses Gibson for Guitars
