littlekenny
jojo, how is the finish aging on yours?
harmonicchaos
mine is fading a lot in a few places (above the pickup selector routing hole on the back where my chest rubs when i'm sitting, the bottom where it rests on my legs when i sit, and it's seeming like it's fading a bit where my arm rests. the neck i'm sure will fade soon too.) i really love mine. what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in sound. one of the best sounding guitars imo. the mahogany and the burstbucker pro pickups are a wonderful combo. i picked one up for 750 before christmas when they were clearanced. even at the current price they're at (808-900) they are a complete steal for the price! i'm gonna refinish the body (darker see through brown, not real fond of the reddish-brown-orange color mine is.) add body binding (cream most likely) and change the black plastic for vintage cream plastic and gold knobs. when it needs a refret (yes i plan on keeping the rest of my life) i'd like to add neck binding but there's no rush on that. but like i said i HIGHLY recommend it especially if you're looking for a les paul (and saving some money is always nice). wizdomcube
this is guitar is amazing, i love mine to death. it's my first les paul, but i have played many others, and i can say it's deffinately worth the money. i like how it has aged so far, i had a pic of the fading, not a very good one, but it was in the other topic... http://forums.gibson.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=1988
littlekenny
thanks everyone all of this has really helped. I'm still debating between the VM and the SG Classic though, i loved both of them when i played them at a guitar center. decisions decisions:-k ... Drave
i had a 05 for a while in worn brown. i loved the sound but i didn't like the neck that much after a while. i ended up finding my classic and i realized my hands were for a 60's neck not a 59 rounded. i did love the guitar when i had it! like stated before the sound is there! just my 2 cents.. heres a pic of brownie my suggestion try them both side by side and get the one that sings to you
wizdomcube
you have two different style guitars with different pickups, which should narrow down which one you like more easily in looks and sound. i hope you enjoy the guitar you choose.

littlekenny
alright, thanks everyone for your help and valuable information, keep it coming! I would sure love to have both but unfortunately that's not an option, i think right now im leaning toward the sg but ill need to try both out a few more times before i make my decision. jojo68
Kenny, my finish is ok. I notice it wearing the most where my belt buckle hits it. I've had an SG classic and I traded it for an SG Standard plus some cash. That deal was too good to pass up. I can't say enough good things about the LPVM ! I think it boils down to your personal preference. Do you like the single coil pick ups and neck better on the SG or lightly finished neck and Burst Buckers on the LPVM better ? The finish on the SG standard and classic necks kinda bugs me. They are sticky as hell. If you want a pretty guitar, get the SG's .
littlekenny
alright, if any of you still really care, ive decided to get a SG Classic over the LP VM. Im thinkin that the P90's in the SG will cover a wider variety of sounds the BBuckers in the VM. Alls i have to do now is get $1000.
GuitarJunkie
I stayed out of this thread be cause I haven't tried the VM LP, but now that you've made your decision I can open my big mouth. You're going to love the SG CLassic. I own one and love it. In fact (not counting ones I'd sold 15-20 years ago) it's the first Gibson I bought. It'll cover just about any style of music you play, except for hardcore metal. It also looks pretty classy. You won't regret your choice. Plus both models are reasonably priced, so whichever of the two you chose, you can keep your eyes out later on for a good deal on a used one.
