deepblue
3 hours of so/so musicianship......honestly, I dont know why Zep released that. It didnt show them in their best light. Im not alone, Page & Plant have said the same thing.

No, it's not their best performances but it was a nice kicked back way to spend the evening. It makes me grin to see them so young.

NeoConMan
Get the Led Zep dvd set they released a couple of years ago. Makes all that old stuff look pathetic. They digitally remastered all the old footage they could find, the result is stunning. Pay the money to add it to your collection if you're a Zep fan. NeoConMan
Thanks for the suggestion' date=' Neo, I don't have that one.[/quote']Yeah, if I recall it was Page who was the most disappointed with the results of TSRTS and all the cheesy cinematics. He was all for the project and trusted those involved, by the time it was finished he felt it was good enough to release. Hey, nobody else was making movies like this.... After it was out and the critics tore it apart he realized they were right about some of their criticism. The film quality from their live shows was horrible, but it was all they could get their hands on. Page refused to let anymore filming of the band be done, and manager Peter Grant made sure it didn't happen unless he okayed it - taking a page from the old Elvis Presley/Colonel Tom Parker playbook. When Page learned about the technology available and the possibilities of digital remastering of video in addition to audio, he started digging around and seeing what might be made out of the crap they had. Like I said, the result is stunning. I don't remember which song it's on, but there's one track where they cut in the old footage a couple of times just for a second. It will make you think your VCR just ate the tape until you realize it's actually on the dvd that way. :-) Plant goes from being a blur with a microphone to being clear enough to see individual hairs on his head. The story goes that Page spent a couple years going over every inch of film they had and documenting it, also taking care to see there was usable audio to match it. He even bought up some bootlegged stuff that he could find when the quality was good enough. My wife won't watch it - too boring for her - but for a die hard Zep fan you gotta watch both discs, more than once!
Rocky4
Check this out... http://www.thegardentapes.co.uk/tgt.html The guy claims the show never happened as presented. Bootlegs of the MSG concerts proove that overdubs and lots of editing were done. What didn't work was redone in a studio in England. Spend some time on the site and you'll see that nothing released live by Zep was put out without editing. BUT WHO CARES? THEY ARE THE GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!!! Pretty common for just about any live album or vid from the 70's on. The technology was such that they could go into the studio and redo guitar solos, all the harmonies and any off key singing. FirstMeasure
Neo's got that right. The Led Zep DVD Set is great. The Bonus Material is really cool, specially Tous En Scene where we see Led Zeppelin Shock the Heck out of a very Straight Laced audience that seems to be prepared for a good 'ol talent show. Homz
I love the original "The Song Remains The Same" vid. Even with the warts. The way, for example, he goes into "Since I Been Loving You" blows me away every time. I also like to see one of the greatest bands ever not looking perfect. No band is perfect. Let's see the scars. NeoConMan
No, Homz, you're right on that one. I don't mind the performance being live with flaws, I just want the source tape or video to be good enough quality to figure it out for myself. From what I know about the Led Zep dvd, there were no studio overdubs - it was all done with editing and sorting the best stuff then digitally cleaning it up as much as possible.
