2008 LP std light burst... still rockin

It's been a couple months now since I got the LP and I wanted to check back in and give a quick update... it's badass! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the chambered body but I've got no complaints and the weight reduction is well worth it for extended playing while standing. Tone is great, action is great, locking tuners are rock solid with zero slip -- ZERO. I've got no issues with the nut binding(I'm running .09s though) like some have complained about on newer Gibsons -- not sure why. New PCB-mounted tone controls are fine with no issues there. The smoother feel of these pots has definitely grown on me, too. The only thing I have left to say it that it rocks and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a newer LP. Give it a go!!!

Thanks!

I highly recommend trying out an Orange, too! The build quality and beefiness of these things is ridiculously amazing. I just ordered a Koch Loadbox attenuator to run at home to really 'juice the Orange' so to speak. :-# These amps beg to be played hard to sound their best.

Steve' date=' tell about the feel of the asymmetrical neck.[/quote']

When I got the guitar that wasn't one of the biggest selling points for me and I didn't know what to expect. I was just really hoping that it didn't feel really odd or anything. I'm a pretty big guy at 6'3" and I've got big hands so even the chunkiest of necks don't really bother me that much. In fact, I recently picked up a 61 SG reissue to try it out and the first thing that stunned me was how seriously thin that neck was! Back to the asymmetrical LP neck though -- to be honest I don't feel a tremendous difference. That said, it is a bit easier to come towards the top with your thumb and still have leverage since the "crest" has essentially been somewhat flattened out with the highest point moved more towards the low E. What does surely feel better is when playing bar chords. It feels like my thumb has a bit more leverage than usual and is resting more comfortably on a flatter surface. That's about the best I can explain it. I tried like crazy to look at the back of the neck to actually see the asymmetrical curve but with the lacquer finish it's just really difficult to with all the shine.

So, all said and done, I'd say it's a subtle thing that likely won't make or break the reason to own this guitar -- unless you have much smaller hands, that is. It was subtly different for me for the first week or so but after that it began to feel normal. Transitioning back to my Strat feels different for sure. I'd attribute a lot of that to the fact that the fretboard is just way narrower on a Strat vs an LP, too.

Hope that helps!

Ah see... I went and jinxed myself by posting this!!!

So was cleaning things up after jamming with my buddies and heard a light rattle around the controls on the LP. Turns out there are loose nuts on two of the pots under the knobs on the face of the guitar and the washers are jingling around a bit. Since the 08 Std uses the PCB mounted pots though they're still rock solid and not wobbly and don't spin past the end of the rotation like they do when they're mounted independently -- was a little tricky to identify because of that. No big deal though. I'll get around to tightening them up eventually.

Also *almost* lost one of the set screws for the "locking" tailpiece. Those stupid things I could live without. I always restring one at a time and never on a single occasion in all my years had a tailpiece *almost* fall or completely fall off. But hey, maybe it's good for marketing. The word "locking" seems to always conjure up images of pro-sounding gear. :-
