steve167
Agree on the not getting too stressed about the measurements. The factory specs are a good reference point to make sure that your instrument doesn't have any major problems, isn't *way* out of spec, or can't be brought at least close to spec. I go for the lowest action I can without any major buzzing. You'll always have *some* light buzzing here and there when you go low low but that's just the price you pay. Minor buzzing is usually not noticeable through an amp. Careful with the truss rod and just remember that straightening the neck completely is not the proper way to lower overall action and will likely lead to more buzzing than less. A good combination of neck relief, bridge height, and proper nut slotting is the key to the best action the entire length of the neck.
blueslespaultone
hey big bends, thanks alot dude. real thorough explanations. actually i setup my les paul last night, i didnt get a chance to read this thread til today. i believe i set it up pretty good. string height, truss rod, intonatio ill do tonight. i took about an hour, taking my time and being as gentle as possible. i would turn the truss rod about an eigth of a turn, check it..and so on. i lowered the pu heights a little. usually take about 2 hours setting up my strats from begining to end. thanks guys. hey big bend thanks again... bluessss. BIGBENDS
Sorry I was late but sounds like you did good, Blues. The Les Paul is playing nice? Every LP I've ever had has sounded better with somewhat lower pickup height. I've setup all my guitars myself and I am happy with all my Gibson, Fender, & PRS guitars. Enjoy that guitar, Blues.
