Can anyone offer some advice as to the best kind of tremolo/vibrato to attach to my SG?

I understand the Bigsby B5 is generally regarded as the best option, but does anyone have and experience of fitting one, and if so what are the pros and cons?

Other suggestions would be welcome to.

Thanks for any help in advance

I added trems to my LPs. I just miss it too much when it's not there. Not Bigsby though. Some guys on the forum have added Bigsby - they'll probably post. I think the vibramate mount is popular with the Bigsby guys. It's non-invasive (no drilling or routing).

I'll agree the b5 is the way to go IMO. There are a couple vids on youtube on how to install. The b5 vid is with a tele but you just skip over the bridge installation and start with the bigsby install.

I used that vid when I installed one on my old melody maker. It's pretty simple. Find the spot where the trem arm meets where you tend to strum; that will help you evaluate the best spot for ease of use. Make sure your alignment from bigsby to bridge to nut is straight with the string supplied. Measure 3 times and drill once. It's always a good idea to have a separate pair of trusted eyes and hands to help you out too.

Good luck. It's a cool mod.

I second the B5. Have one on my SG Special and love it. Just wish I would have put one on sooner. It's solid and gives the guitar more oomph. Operation is very smooth.

Best thing going nowadays to not only add a Bigsby but ALSO to fill the stoptail holes is the Vibramate (you can Google 'em, or look 'em up on eBay). It's a great way to mod the guitar and still NOT go boing holes in it. It's worth a consideration, people seem to dig 'em.

thanks all.

the vibramate looks cool, and anything that involes a lack of drilling is cool.

anyone got any experience with them?
