Devil Seed
The stock 490R and 498T aren't cutting it for me. I play metal and need a high gain pickups that are articulate and creamy and can handle tight rhythms and shred leads. I like the ceramic 500T that's stock in V's and Seymour Duncan Distortion(SH-6) pickups but I'm new to this body weight and construction. Some guitar sounds that I admire are Black Sabbath(*recent), Mercyful Fate, Candlemass, Metallica(early). *Yeah, I love it all but I'm looking for the modern distortion. 80LPC
With the right amp / cab, any humbucker will give you the sound you want.
Geff
Dirty Fingers might be a good option but if you already know that you like the 500T, why not use it?

See if any guitar shops sell any SG with those in em' so can at least try them out. BTW, thanks for your advice. My Peavey 6505+ is being shipped today!:)
yucancallmepatty
hello im a metal player, and i am happy with the hi gain sounds out of my active emgs but its not that versatile but you can definitely get good sounds if you work with them right. but i think you need something else, due to the bands you listed. i have seymour duncan dimebuckers which do quite nicely i think that might be the pick up for you i agree the stock 490 dont give me a great tone either

[/quote'] Sorry to partially quote ya there. What kind of amp do you have? You might want to consider amp shopping before you change pickups. I have 496r's and 498t's in 2 of my guitars, and they are capable of giving me everything from a nice vintage rock tone, to heavily saturated crunchy distortion. -I use a 5150 amp though, and that's probably more responsible for the tone than the pickups. If you don't want to buy a new amp, maybe think about getting a new distortion pedal. Even something simple like that can give your signal some more oomph.
