I Am a Gibson-A-Holic

Recommended Posts

My name is Mr. Robot and I am a Gibson-A-Holic!!

I dont know whats wrong with me. I recently put a deposit on my third Gibson - a Les paul Gold Top - and I am still weeks away from bringing the Gold Top home - but then I caught myself asking the guy in the shop questions about a TV Yellow Custom Shop Les Paul Junior sitting on the rack. I woke up thinking about the LP Junior. I want to go back to the shop again - just to touch it. I know my wife will kill me if I bring another one home. #-o

I know that if I weaken and buy the LP Junior the same thing will happen when to go to the shop to pick it up - another one will jump out at me and demand my affections. Maybe the Les Paul Special or the SG Standard.

I feel like I have already been unfaithful to the Gold Top.

I am sure the guy in the shop thinks I am stalking him.

I think I need help! Maybe a beer and a good lie down.

So you managed to sleep? :- Every time that happens to me I cannot sleep at all... I spend all the night thinking about getting to her... touching her, and ultimately buying her (or whatever piece of equipment I've set sights on).

Good thing your wife would kill you... my fiance doesn't help my little problem, everytime I come home with a new toy she's as happy as me and even tells me that's why I work, to be able to buy whatever I want to.

3 guitars doesn't make you a addict! hell three guitars isn't even a busy month for some of the true addicts out here (trust me I know) three Gibson is a good start nothing more than that.

Don't feel bad yet and don't worry everybody need a Les Paul Junior great sound and fun guitar...

The point of my user name is that photography is my other vice er obsession uh I mean hobby. I once suggested on the photography forum I belong to that we needed a support group for those of us with hobby OCD. Though not quite as bad as my musical hobby, top notch camera equipment is quite a coin suck too.

Though I wouldn't consider myself a Gibson addict, after spending $3400 on a Lifeson thinking it was a bargain since others were snatched up for $3700, for my 50th birthday this year, I just pulled the trigger on a Cognac 50th R9 thinking $4999 was a bargain since others were snatched up at $5999.

Isn't it amazing how we find the "logic" to justify our "emotion" to get that new toy?

Want an LP => Need an LP

I turn 50 this year => so does the legendary R9.

Others have paid $6K or more => Only spent $5K [got a friend] Of course, I've scratched his back too - not literally but you know what I mean.

Cognac ended up being my personal favorite => Stumbled across a Cognac online that actually has my birthday month and year in the S/N.

Despite the economy => Just made 50% gain on some stock options.

Sign from a higher power, right?

Perfectly logical right?

Uh huh! I'm sure the wife will understand my logic. Fortunately we agreed along time ago that my stock options are my hobby money. Never mind I could have gotten 2 other really nice guitars for what I paid for this one.

Of course, the guitar could sound like *** when it arrives or have some physical defect that doesn't show up in the online pics so it's not a done deal yet but it is on the way. Should arrive Wed. or Thur.

Pics as soon as I accept delivery.

What could eventually qualify me as a Gibson addict is that silly Florentine is already really starting to catch my attention. Nice features => I am a Trem freak => Don't own a Bigsby => Only 350 will be made. There goes that logic again.

Honey? Got a minute?

I don't know if this is weird or not, but I seem to have an obsession with getting some ware patterns in my 07 LP Standard. She is a beautifully stripped guitar, but I have this image in my head of the neck paint and that place where my forearm rests on the body being worn down. Like something out of the 70's that has been ridden hard. Now don't get me wrong I can't see myself ever buying one that has been pre-worn like those Roadworn Fenders. This image I have is of me like 15 years from now passing down my favorite guitar to my son. The nearly worn out beauty that has stood the test of time and spilled beer.

Thunder - sleep can be a problem. The number of times I have tried to doze off dreaming of my next axe - and having the opposite effect! Waking bleary eyed, mumbling like a demented sole, something about les pauls. I have even managed to merge dreaming about guitars with other stuff.
