Tarkwa
On 2 October 2006 I lent a person near Pershore a Mahogany coloured 1974 Gibson SG Standard Guitar -S/n188182 with its original well worn case. He claimed to have been an ex- member of “Napalm Death”. He was wanting to practice for a reunion gig on 31 October 2006. I have never seen it since. When asked by police to return it in Spring 2007, he told the police "it had a broken neck and I binned it". That was the "end of case" as far as the police were concerned. I know he will have sold it or part exchanged it -probably immediately I put it in his possession on 2 October 2006 or soon after . Does anyone know of its whereabouts? Were you offered this guitar? Would love to share notes with anyone else who has been defrauded by a very large tattoed Brummie.
NeoConMan
Do you know where the guy is? Forget the guitar for a minute - and get medievel on his ***. Okay, don't forget the guitar. Keep your ears open and keep looking. But I would enslave this piece of sh!t and beat him like a borrowed mule. Burn down his house or his car. Report him to the cops for dealing drugs, beating his wife or abusing/molesting children. Tomorrow, I would do it all over again..... Sorry, I do NOT suffer thieves or liars gladly. kruliosis
Find out that bastards name and address and have something sent to him COD! Whoever that guy was, he was lying to you. Nobody from Napalm Death is going to be playing an SG for a show. They have their endorsements, believe me. Napalm Death just came out with a killer album titled:Time Waits for No Slave. Their going strong, and are still out there on tour. What the hell is this lie about a reunion show!? I wish I would have been there to call him on that s**t! Reminds of this time when this homeless guy told me he was in Celtic Frost. Hanging out at Burger King and crying about how they were a beautiful Classical orchestra. I asked him why CF wasn't a three piece Metal band anymore, why the hell he was in the Bay Area, and he ended up looking so pathetic. I gave him a couple bucks for a burger(which he didn't buy). He hauled *** to the liqour store down the street with the money and sat in the park talking to high school kids.. Alright it's late and I'm rambling. You need to take that pinner to court and make him pay you the full amount that guitar was worth! If you know where he lives, put Vaseline all over the hood of his car and super glue his windsheild wipers shut. The Vaseline with catch dirt, bugs and won't wash off. And his windshield wipers will burn up his motor when he tries to make them work. Don't get me started on pranks man!

Twiz
Man, that sucks. I really don't think it's a good idea to try the revenge thing on this guy. As awesome, and gratifying as that may seem, it will probably just get you in trouble. I'd recommend putting your efforts into spreading the word that this guy stole/lost/sold your guitar. I don't know what the scene is like where you live, but a reputation like that around here would result in him being ostracized from the local scene. It's really unfortunate that you lost such a great guitar. I hope that somehow you can get it back. I think that if there's anything positive that can come out of this, it's to not lend instruments to people that you don't know very well.

My good mates who are members of a band called Freekilos have weekly practise in pershore at a studio near Tesco, not sure where but they were introduced to a guy "apparently" an ex member of Napalm death. He promised them some contacts and gigs and what not.. I was intrigued and did some research on this guy. He is a big mother ****er (huge!!!), bald, long goatie, Brumie, tattoed and goes by the name of "steve". Now there are no ex members of ND by the name of Steve. I've already spoken to my mates about your insident and they wanna see it for them selves so i got a print out and will show them in the week.. @Tarkwa, i'll send you my email so you can contact me, if you want to know anything else i can try and find out the info for you before we confront this bloke while there still chummy.. cheers .. James Walsh
Yikes. Look you might as well consider this the price of an education. Maybe - yes maybe- you can track down the Guitar some day, but it's doubtful. Move on. Years ago our Buick was lost. We went out of town in our new car and the Buick was gone when we came back. Sometimes ya gotta let it go. No point in beating a dead horse or banging yer head against the wall. Good luck.

This individual was tracked down and admitted to a crime but the police did nothing about it. If you can find out his details you can take him to court yourself (talk to your local citizens advice to figure out your options). It doesnt matter what he did with the guitar, he failed to return it to you. Assuming his story is true (which I doubt) he should still have returned the broken guitar to you and if he had a half decent bone in his body he would have offered to pay to fix it. Unfortunately, you have let a lot of time pass and that is not helping you.

This individual was tracked down and admitted to a crime but the police did nothing about it. If you can find out his details you can take him to court yourself (talk to your local citizens advice to figure out your options). Someone I know lent a Strat to a guy he had known for years, and considered him a friend. The guy moved and wasn't seen again for a few years. By chance, he bumped into him and asked for the guitar. The reply was that it had been stolen. The police are not interested in what they would term a 'civil' dispute. If the Brummie had stolen the SG, (although we know that in effect he really has stolen it), that would have prompted a stronger response from the police. But even then, we have to be realistic...I was reading today of a motorcyclist who was charged with causing a danger on the roads because as he rode along, mint sweets were falling out of his pocket. He has to do community service, wear a tag on his ankle, and be in by dusk. There are thieves that have not been treated so harshly. Sadly, it's often a waste of time going down the route of bringing a civil case.
NeoConMan
Okay, RR.... I'm not picking on you personally, but I wanna use your excellent post to make a couple contrasting points. I agree with the "not seeking revenge" thing.Since this is a public forum' date=' I'll say that I was kidding with my over-the-top initial post and it was all tongue in cheek.:-) Not only will it possibly get you i trouble' date=' there is NO need to sink to an immature level just to show this guy a lesson.[/quote']This is what we were all taught, and it's what my children were taught. If you ever do meet up with him' date=' just make sure you get the guitar back, or at least something equivalent, tell the police and let things go.[/quote']Okay, this is where the real world kicks in your door, grabs you by the hair and drags you into the street. Have you EVER seen the police recover anything stolen? How about a musical instrument? My OWN insurance agent told me that every claim he's ever had with instruments turned out to be fraudulent and the police figure you're lying to start with - if not simply stupid enough to deserve it. Not a very good start, eh? The police DON'T CARE!!!! I KNOW this guy deserves a deep and severe punishment for what he has done' date=' but things always have a way of coming around, and better to just let the chips fall where they lay. [/quote']This is probably the lamest feel-good cop out there is.... My ex-wife finally got nailed by the Internal Revenue Service, but it was NOWHERE NEAR what I went thru because of her. People like this have a way of surviving like cockroaches in the crevices of our society, and should be crushed at every turn. In no way do I advocate doing something stupid and placing yourself or your freedom in jeopardy, but there are ways to exact a price from people who have used up all their credit in this world. Let's just say I have a hobby/part-time job in collections....
vourot
I agree with neocon. Its like playing ice hockey. If you get laid out by someone ( clean hit or not ) best to just get their number for future reference instead of going after them right away with emotions running high. Then when the opportunity presents itself...... its all about picking your spots.
Tarkwa
I had two reasons for posting this. One to see if anyone had my guitar -that would be excellent proof of theft. Two -to warn others about this guy. I have his name & address. Typical guitar scam is to borrow then sell. Often adds provenance (eg ex Elvis Costello) to up the price. Swaps for new guitar, then mysteriously lost or damaged and letter requested for insurance scam. Similar approach with motorbikes and anything of value. A body of evidence from various victims could be impossible for police to ignore.
kruliosis
Things like this always happen. A few years ago I gave money to a guy who I knew and trusted pretty well. He told me to come by his house later to pick up my Les Paul. I show up, and next thing you know a few of his boys have me surrounded. I just told him that I had to go to the store real quick and that I'd be back. That fortunately got me home without some bruises. I know it's hard to say no to people who act like they really need to use something. I hate doing it, but I'd rather be seen as a **** rather than get dicked...or even take that chance even if they're sincere. You never can tell.
