deepblue Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Im not into LP Jrs' myself, but this 1958 played nice at Long & Mcquade in Burlington. Its heavier then I thought it would be...weight wise, not tone. $2999 Canadian...dont know if thats good or bad. Thats a John Lennon Epi on the left, and a Warren Haynes LP on the right.
Mad Rax Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Looks nice, I'm not sure about the price. If she sound good she might be worth every penny though and don't worry about the weight; ALL GUITARISTS ARE HUNCHBACKS!!
Tim Plains Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I haven't been in there in a while. That Jr. used to be $4,000. That Warren Haynes is giving me G.A.S. Max, Canadian $$.
deepblue Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 That Warren Haynes is giving me G.A.S. The Haynes is a second. I played her.....it was ok, nothing special.
BIGBENDS Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 A 1958 Gibson Les Paul Jr. had only one p-90, not 2 humbuckers like in that first pic. The pickguard looks wrong also. Maybe it's modified. It should look like this. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Shop-1958-Les-Paul-Junior-Double-Cutaway-VOS-Electric-Guitar?sku=517974
Tim Plains Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 BIGBENDS, the one that deepblue posted is a 51 year old guitar. Cracked headstock, if I'm not mistaken. I played her.....it was ok' date=' nothing special.[/quote']G.A.S. curer right there.
deepblue Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 BIGBENDS, the one that deepblue posted is a 51 year old guitar.Cracked headstock, if I'm not mistaken. Tim, you are correct sir.
pohatu771 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 That comes out to about $2600 US... for a heavily-modified, double-cutaway Les Paul Junior... I don't know. I suppose it's a relatively cheap way to get into a vintage Gibson, but it will never really be a Junior again.
Tim Plains Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 pohatu...that is relatively cheap for a vintage Gibson, if you think about it. Try buying a '50s Gibson Les Paul for that much money. I guy here in Ontario bought a '53 gold top/refinished to a burst/refinished back to a gold top for $15,000.
pohatu771 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I guess it comes down to whether you'd rather spend the same money on a modified vintage or a stock new guitar, with similar specs. There are currently two 1958 Juniors on eBay (one single and one double-cut) for $6500 US each. Of course, if the guitar is really worth that price, based on sound and feel, I guess it doesn't matter what year it was made. I'm not in a position to be spending that much money on anything, so what I say doesn't particularly matter. It is a shame, though, that a perfectly good guitar was modified so much... of course, I'm doing the opposite project - converting a humbucker-equipped guitar to a Les Paul Special clone.
deepblue Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Thats another great reason to be here... Id have never known that that guitar came with P90's Ill bet anything the guys at L&M think its all original.
Mr. Robot Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Thats another great reason to be here...Id have never known that that guitar came with P90's Ill bet anything the guys at L&M think its all original. Definitely heavily modified. If anyone was thinking of buying it, I reckon your investment dollars would be better spent on a new custom shop VOS
pippy Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 A 1958 Gibson Les Paul Jr. had only one p-90' date=' not 2 humbuckers like in that first pic. The pickguard looks wrong also. Maybe it's modified.[/quote'] I suspect the pickguard was specially made when the guitar was changed from 'Junior' spec to 'Special' by the addition of the second pup (I thought at first it might have been a 'Special' wrongly ID'd before I noticed there are only three knobs... ). If those pups are near-period-correct then $3K is a steal! Somehow I doubt it, though.
